Hi,

I have a custom built computer from 2009, I know it's past due for upgrades and I've been getting several errors and problems that might point to what to do first.

Here's what's happening:

FREEZING - usually happens within the first 5 minutes or so of start up. Only happens when I start to do something (usually open the chrome first). If I turn on the computer and let it sit for 15 minutes or even an hour, it's fine until I start doing something with it.

WHITE SCREEN - this is the most recent problem as of a week or so. It seems really random, just a pure white screen.

BSOD - this has been happening the longest but has gotten more frequent, it's at least 1 a day.

To fix any of these problems, I have to hit the "restart" on my computer. These things happen multiple times a day and I'm really only using the computer maybe 3 hours. I've run malware and virus scan within the last few days.

Any ideas or help?

Thanks!

Greetings AutumnSage,

Sorry for the delay in responding to you. It was not intentional :)

Could you please upload the ZIP file generated by the following the below guide -
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

The symptoms which you have described depict of a hardware problem. I would also suggest you to follow the below guide (thanks usasma!) -
http://carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Pranav,

I followed the instructions on that linked page and have attached the zip file. I'll check out the guide as well. Please let me know what the zip file tells you and what I should do next.

Thanks!

There are several dump files which are corrupt. I see that there are problems with general purpose applications like iTunes, Dropbox etc. There are several errors which point the finger towards the memory at this point of time. But, before we blame the memory being the culprit, kindly follow the below steps -
  • Kindly remove any Western Digital Software installed on the system. The driver named wdcsam64.sys is known to cause problems. If you cannot find any software, please search for this driver on your system and rename it to - wdcsam64bak.sys and then reboot the system.
  • Kindly update the drivers and make sure that you have all the Windows Updates installed on the system.
  • Please start with the free memory diagnostics over here - http://www.carrona.org/memdiag.html
Let me know how it goes ^_^
