I am attempting to restore an ASUS X401A to Windows 7 factory settings with an external Samsung DVD. I purchased the recovery media from ASUS, but it is not booting to the recovery screen.

Power on > Bios splash > Reads Optical Drive and status bar displays under "Windows is loading files..." > Starting Windows > Grey Screen with curser and revolving circle > reboot and repeat...

Any tips, hopes or prods?

I tried using the on board tools, but the restore partition is not there.
