I've always used Ccleaner to completely remove startup items for programs no longer installed. Download the free version of  Ccleaner here: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

After installing, run & select 'TOOLS' on the left then click on the 'STARTUP' button. Select the 'Windows' tab & select the item from the list. You can then choose to Enable, Disable or Delete.

Other methods would require editing the registry.

Here's a good guide: http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

I never make the same mistake twice....I always make it 5 or 6 times just to be sure!
