I have a laptop with Windows 7 Pro installed and running NIS 2013/ The OS and applications were all fully updated. Two weeks ago I went abroad on business and was planning to stay in contact using Skype. The first couple of days of my itinerary meant there wasn't a good time to Skype so it was about the fourth day before we tried. When we did try the home laptop wouldn't connect to the Internet, although it had been working just fine.

When I got back home I found that the laptop was getting IP addressing from the home router's DHCP server, I could ping the router, resolve web addresses and ping them. If I try and open IE it closes itself immediately and if I try to open Chrome it asks if I want to restore open tabs as it wasn't closed properly. The laptop then hangs completely and can only be shut down by holding down the power switch.

I tried a system restore but that failed so I turned off tamper protection in NIS and tried again, same result.

I'v tried installing MBAM but it fails with an error message "Internal error: Expression error 'Runtime Error (at 112:109). Could not call proc.'

TDSS Killer found nothing.

JRT finds nothing.

GMER finds nothing.

MBAR finds nothing.

I'd appreciate some suggestions on what to try next please?
