i had this problem before with my last hard drive and thought it must have been just going bad.
so i got 2 new hard drives and split my saved files on to those two hard drives... and the problem is still there.

(posted in hardware 1st, he couldn't find any thing and moved it to anti-virus and he couldn't find any thing ether... so now trying here)

i have 5 hard drives
1: [C:/ 60GB SSD] windows and windows software

2: [G:/ 180GB SSD] installed games

3: [V:/ 1TB Disk Drive ] ISO copies of games and game save files

4: [Y:/ 60GB SSD] default save location for anything that doesn't ask where to be saved.

5: [M:/ 1TB Disk Drive] photos, movies and music

after keeping an eye on it for  a bit now, it seems it is mostly happening to drive 4 and 5... but not limited to them... but they are the most used drives...

so my best guess is that when i write new content to the hard drives it over laps on current content... slowly deleting old content.

drive 4 i was using in this computer when i was using winXP and didn't have this problem...

same with my old mass storage hard drive i replaced with the new Disk 3 and Disk 5

you might want to check the old posts for my last program/system errors.....

i did completely reformat all my drives and reinstalled windows since last time you tried to help... but the last 10 errors and crashes right now will probably all be from me bleep with the ini files for fallout 4.

Restart your computer in safe mode with networking. Click on the link below. On the left side of the window click "validate windows". Restart your computer to see if this resolved the issue. If it did not, restart in safe mode with networking again and click the second link. Download the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool. Restart your computer.

Copy paste the results of running the tool...into your next post.

but i am not trying to fix the fallout 4 crashes.... those are from ME bleep with the game files and has nothing to do with the issue of stuff vanishing from my hard drive.

they haven't released the patch to help people mod the game yet so me bleep with things not supported yet is going to cause crashes... that will be patched in the future... not that i need it to be... i have done almost every thing i wanted with the game already.

as i posted in my very first post on this topic.... im pretty sure that when i download/install or any thing else that causes NEW data to be stored on the hard drives writes a little bit on top of files that have not been deleted and shouldn't be written on top of.... slowly degrading them or causing them to be completely lost to the point that data recovery software can't even find them.

Teisei,

I just noticed from your Speccy info that Antivirus is disabled, (and I did not see any antivirus program installed), plus your last Windows Update was way back on 08/07/15.  This is leaving your computer exposed to security risks.

Therefore, I highly recommend that you first follow Hamluis advice about getting your Windows properly registered/activated, then quickly install and activate an antivirus program, then install the available Windows updates since August.  Once this is done, you will be in a much better position for us to help diagnose why you are losing random files.

Best wishes.

the ONLY updates im interested in are the security updates and the unicode update.... the auto updater is a peace of crap and some how always tends to update right in the middle of a raid.... some times even forcing your computer to restart.

pretty much all i do on this computer is gaming... i use my xp computer for any risky downloads or web surfing.

a quick search shows i am pretty much up to date on security... but it was a really quick search so might be wrong.... i can't seem to find the unicode update tho... i do need unicode 8.0

*edit*
it seems i need unicode 8 not 9.
also seems chrome doesn't support unicode 8... so guess time to switch back to firefox.

Teisei, because what is happening to you seems very similar to what happened to me years ago, may I ask you a few quick questions?

Are there sometimes more than one install going on at the same time?

Are there sometimes more than one explorer session [or window] open - and copying/moving something?

During install[s] or during explorer session[s], is there a "Recycle Bin helper" program running?

Are there any defragging procedure[s] running on any one or more of the hard-drives while other things are happening?

Are any of your anti-virus or anti-malware programs set to "deep-scan" or "thoroughly-scan" each and every file?

Reason for asking:  my horribly geekish earlier post hid the fact that explorer.exe comes between end-user and all hard-ware read/writes.

Years ago, my explorer.exe was actively copying/moving folders/files in more than one windows session, more than one install was going on, defragging was going on, and possibly I had set my security programs too assertively -- half of explorer operations were compromised [well, until I stopped extreme-explorer-multi-tasking].  I simply want to rule in or rule out:  similar things now happening to your computer that happened to mine some time ago.

Did you set the Plug and Play by GPO?

The permissions granted to the Plug and Play Service do not grant the Licensing Service (sppsvc) the appropriate rights to access the Plug and Play service.

Click on the Windows key windowskey_zps092d5c75.png and the R key together.

Types services in the Search programs and files box.  When Services open in the results above the search box right click on it and select Run as administrator.

When Services opens scroll down to Plug and Play and click on it.

Under Status it should be running.  If it is not right right click on Plug and Play and select Properties.

Under Service status click on Start.
