A few days ago I was playing a Flash game and all of the sudden it just froze up. No big deal right? Well it froze to the point of having to force a reboot. I looked and at the time it looks like Firefox was updating but I don't think I've ever had it freeze up like that when it was updating. Out of curiosity I did an MBAM scan and it did flag a couple things. I use Swagbucks and have for quite a long time and it flagged some things related to that but I've never had anything flagged before so I'm finding that totally odd. I'm getting some ads coming up that I've never seen before so it's making me wonder if I have something wrong or not. After putting those few things in quarantine I'm not getting any notifications of anything bad from MBAM or virus scans.

Here's a picture for one of the ads coming up right from this site:

Try to do a cleanup with Adwcleaner. Seems like it could help. You can download the program on this web site with the following link.

Let me know if you still have trouble.

No I didn't because I was taking your advice being as you were a mod and trying to stick with one persons idea for help. I had asked in my log post if I should do it but I guess that answers my question so I will.

I have it done. Should I post a log considering it did find one issue?

Please post it. I wasn't trying to take over but no problem.
Then run .....

lv0mVRW.pngJunkware Removal Tool
  • Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
cvMlKv6.pngESET Online Scanner
  • Click here to download the installer for ESET Online Scanner and save it to your Desktop.
  • Disable all your antivirus and antimalware software - see how to do that here.
  • Right click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • Place a checkmark in YES, I accept the Terms of Use, then click Start. Wait for ESET Online Scanner to load its components.
  • Select Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications.
  • Click Advanced Settings, then place a checkmark in the following:
    • Remove found threats
    • Scan archives
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • Click Start to begin scanning.
  • ESET Online Scanner will start downloading signatures and scan. Please be patient, as this scan can take quite some time.
  • When the scan is done, click List threats (only available if ESET Online Scanner found something).
  • Click Export, then save the file to your desktop.
  • Click Back, then Finish to exit ESET Online Scanner.

For the record, I haven't rebooted since I started the topic. I've left all settings on Adwcleaner as is.

This may not mean anything considering I know nothing of how JRT works but I find it interesting that 2 of the 3 removed items were preinstalled.

EDIT: One was added when I had it in for work a long time ago but one IS something I got with the computer.

To mrk2474,

Sometimes cleaning program can found False Positive. The general idea is when your not sure, you can Google about it to know if it's a known issue or ask on BleepingComputer forum :) ,because sometimes an infection can corrupt the program. Thats why you have to be carefull. If you totally trust the program you can leave it be. I hope i explain myself correctly....  As for your initial issue do you still have ads comming up?

For dseufert

I dont know what you talking about, i been using adwcleaning for a year+ on many many computer, and nothing wrong happen. Do you have link on topic about what your saying?

Regards,

Granada

I'm honestly starting to think the ads I was seeing were just normal and I didn't realize it because I've been on different computers and seeing basically the same ones. It's just the MBAM flagging things that I've never seen flagged before that mainly got my concerns raised, which may in the end may end up being not a big deal.

That may be with some ads.

remove what ADW cleaner found.

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator[/i]
  • The tool will start to update the database, please wait a bit.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
  • After the scan has finished...
  • <-insert any special instructions here for what to uncheck OR remove this line if there are none->
  • This time click on the Cleaning button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[C#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.
Empty your temp folders using TFC (Temporary File Cleaner)
  • Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop.
    alternate download link
  • Save any unsaved work. (TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!)
  • Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. (If you are using Vista or above, right-click on the file and choose "Run As Administrator".)
  • Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway allowing Windows to load normally (not into Safe Mode) to ensure a complete clean.
How is it now?
