Hope I'm not being an idiot but I bought a new sound card recently. The pins look like PCIe but if I were to put them in a PCIe slot then it would be facing into my pc. Are they PCIe or am I being a fool?

never mind, the person who sold this to me neglected to tell me that it only works with SOME asus motherboards. I guess I'd better return it.
