Hi, my HP desktop pc keeps freezing up. If I start in safe mode it doesn't happen. It usually happens a couple minutes after startup. At first it would only occur when browsing the internet, but now does it on the desktop as well. The cursor will stop moving and the mouse and keyboard become unresponsive.

Ive run scans with MBAM and MSE.

I've also tried a clean boot and the problem still occurs every time.

I checked event viewer and it showed a few very recent "1084 errors".

Then I tried to do a system restore from safe mode to before the 1084 errors but it's stuck on the screen "system restore is restoring the registry...". It's been like this for over an hour. The hard drive light blinks once every 3 seconds for the last hour or so also.

Not sure what to do next. Thanks

Is it still stuck in System Restore?

If not, what did you do to get out of it?

Let's have a look at this report, please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Lot's of issues in the logfile.

Have you scanned for malware?

Have you tried a repair install of Windows ( https://www.winhelp.us/non-destructive-reinstall-of-windows-7.html )?

Here's some free scanners from this link ( https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA15-286A ):

       F-Secure

       McAfee

       Microsoft

       Sophos

       Trend Micro

Yes, I scanned with Malwarebytes, ran a full scan with Microsoft security essentials, and trend micro housecall. They are all clean.

I did not try a repair install of windows.

I would try the repair install and see if that helps.

If it doesn't, post another copy of the Admin logfile after it and we'll see about addressing things one-by-one.

I was able to do a system restore, and now the computer seems to be running normally. Here's the event viewer logs:

I'm glad to hear it.  There's no need to look at the log if the system isn't giving you problems.

Good luck!
