My boyfriend's Bluetooth on his cell phone showed connected to the Bluetooth in the car. The problem is the car was 35 miles away and not running. Does anyone know how this is possible?

Stuck Bluetooth stack most likely. Un-pair the device on the phone, restart phone, re-pair the device on the phone. That should clear the issue.

Thanks for the reply Animal. He did un-pair and restart his phone and then it still showed paired. I know it's not possible with Bluetooth being short range but why would it show paired?

I see all sorts of Bluetooth issues across multiple types of handsets with Android 5.1 posted. One example being this topic.

Yes that is for 5.0.1 But they all follow the same theme for Lollipop in general. Wide variety of possibilities and no idea what vehicle he has. Another suggestion is check with the carrier and see if they have a bulletin on that model phone for known issues.
