Hi, My Panda AV2016 cannot complete a scan, it stops at C:windows\system32\DriverStore\FileRepository (27%) in full or quick scan mode.

It does this even in safe mode.

I have uninstalled/re-installed and no difference.

Any ideas? Thanks

It is not unusual for an anti-virus or anti-malware scanner to have problems with or be suspicious of compressed, archived, .cab, .rar, .jar, .iso, and packed files because they have difficulty reading what is inside them. These kind of files often trigger alerts by security software using heuristic detection because they are resistant to scanning (difficult to read). This resistance may also result in some scanners to stall (hang) on these particular types of files or just ignore (skip) them.

Other legitimate files, especially those used by security programs, may be obfuscated, encrypted or password protected in order to conceal itself so they do not allow access as a protective measure. When the scanner finds such an object, it makes a note and then just skips to the next one. That explains why it may show with such notations but no action taken in certain anti-virus or anti-malware log scan reports. These are normal when using many security scanning programs so there is seldom a need for concern.

The %SystemDrive%\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository directory stores backup copy of built-in drivers in Windows. There can be hundreds of sub-folders within that directory and the scan could be hanging on any one of them.

You most likely will need to wait on the Support Team. They probably will ask you to run some tool to create a debug log in order to determine what is wrong. Those types of tools are typically not available to us.

In the meantime you can try doing customs scans or exclude that folder from being scanned.

The instructions in that link are for Panda 2012...I was not able to find anything more current. However, you might find that information if you download and read the user manual: Panda Product Documentation

Hi, thanks once again for reply, appreciated.

I have already run the Panda tool, but unfortunately that too locked at the same spot.

I will set up the custom scan.
