I had two websites up (yellowpages.com) and an insurance website...glanced at the laptop screen while on an important phone call and there was a BSOD.  I just let it shutdown because I could not hang up.  I believe it said something about hard drive failure.

When I turned it on again about 20 minutes later, the popup "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" appeared.  The details were:

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
  OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
  Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
  BCCode: 9f
  BCP1: 0000000000000003
  BCP2: FFFFFA8006284060
  BCP3: FFFFF8000475F3D8
  BCP4: FFFFFA800B37A890
  OS Version: 6_1_7601
  Service Pack: 1_0
  Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
  C:\Windows\Minidump\111715-25989-01.dmp
  C:\Users\nowfaith\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-100495-0.sysdata.xml

Read our privacy statement online:
  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104288&clcid=0x0409

If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline:
  C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt

What should I do next to determine what's happened?  I don't know how to send a minidump.
Thank you for assistance.

Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

#5 Spoiler:

OS - Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Vista ?  Windows 7
· x86 (32-bit) or x64 ?    x86   64-bit
· What was original installed OS on system?  Windows 7 Home Premium © 2009  SP1
· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)?   OS pre-installed
· Age of system (hardware)   2009 I think; I purchased  new April 2012
· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS?   Have not re-installed OS; did a system image backup from a WD My Passport January 2014
· CPU   2nd generation Intel® Core™ i3-2350M Processor   2.30GHz
· Video Card   Intel® HD Graphics 3000 with up to 1696MB total graphics memory
· MotherBoard - (if NOT a laptop)
· Power Supply - brand & wattage (skip if laptop)
· System Manufacturer   HP Pavilion g7-1310us Notebook PC
· Exact model number  Product # A6Z19UA#ABA
· Laptop or Desktop?   Laptop

FYI:  Emsisoft Anti-Malware installed 6/8/15 (prior to that was avast free)

HP Officejet 4500 printer works fine, but I only have the printer and fax installed--could never get the scan to work properly and the full HP installation constantly messed up.

Best Buy Geeks have two installation on here I think (from late 2012)

Multiple problems last 6 months with Windows Update and System Restore; got help at BC Windows 7 forum

I am not smart technically. Let me know if I'm not replying correct.

Thank you,

Start by:

- download a fresh copy of the latest wireless drivers/software for your system from HP support site

- uninstall the current drivers/software from Control Panel...Programs and Features

- install the freshly downloaded drivers/software

- monitor for further BSOD's

I'll post back with further suggestions within ½ hour (approximately).

Drivers not installed for the OfficeJet 4500.  Please disconnect it from the system while we're troubleshooting and uninstall it's software

What did Best Buy Geeks do for you back then?

Bluetooth is disabled.  Please:

- enable the Bluetooth

- update it's drivers (from the HP support website)

- then, if you'd like, disable the device again (only after the drivers have been successfully updated).

Many, many BSOD's from August through early October that didn't capture memory dumps.  Can you describe what happened back then (and what you did to fix/change things).

Most of them appear related to the Broadcom wireless drivers - but a few blame the Intel graphics adapter.

As long as you're visiting the HP website, please download and install the latest Intel graphics driver also.

You asked: Many, many BSOD's from August through early October that didn't capture memory dumps.  Can you describe what happened back then (and what you did to fix/change things).

I let it shut down or restarted from the power button, "start windows normally"...and hoped for the best.  In 2015, there's been a death in the family, and I had major surgery Sept 14th with ongoing issues and just haven't been able to attend to this properly...plus I simply I am technically uneducated.

You say see these topics as the feeble attempts I've made:

When the HP Officejet 4500 was installed on this laptop, even HP support could never make the "HP Solution Center" work properly.  This Solution Center installation is required if all the functions of the printer are to be installed.  We uninstalled the full Solution Center and just re-installed the printer and the fax which is what I need.

A friend purchased Geek Squad assistance and the 4500 was still giving problems so Geeks (I believe) installed ANOTHER 4500 installation from HP website and left the original one also; I obviously didn't know that's what they did, and with limited knowledge, couldn't stop what they were doing and couldn't uninstall anything properly.

This printer works fine for faxing and copies; I do not want the full Solution Center; it has never functioned properly on this software.

I enabled Bluetooth at Device Manager (searched for instructions-I think it's OK).

Snip attached shows 2 printers in Device Manager.  My recollection is that there are "levels" of uninstallation for printers.

Control Panel  and Devices and Printers shows only one 4500 printer.  How do I uninstall both of them and at what level?

I'll post back with further suggestions within ½ hour (approximately).

1.  I tried hp.com in IE11 and Chrome (both wireless and on Ethernet), and HP, even after detecting this laptop, says it can't tell me which updates/drivers to download and install for my device because:

HP encountered an error while trying to scan your product.

Please verify your product is powered on and connected, then try again in a few minutes.

Or, view all available drivers for your product below.

Obviously I've got power and I'm connected to internet.

2.  I do not understand your above quoted instructions.  Does "latest wireless" mean Bluetooth and LAN?  There are 12 listed Driver-Network updates.

3.  I did download and install Intel Wireless Driver, sp54841.

4.  Downloaded and attempted install of Broadcom Bluetooth Software, sp55079, but it wouldn't finish because it said there were no Bluetooth devices detected.

5.  Downloaded and attempted install of Intel Graphics Driver, sp55025.  Laptop said it was already installed.   No other update available on HP.

6.  Until you tell me which programs you're asking me to uninstall, where to get a fresh copy  and then reinstall at the Control Panel,  I dare not do anything else.

More assistance much appreciated.

I apologize if my suggestions weren't clear enough for you.

1)  I presumed that you could identify your wireless card from Device Manager and select/install the appropriate driver(s)/software

I will address your issues step-by-step.

- go to this page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-g7-1300-Notebook-PC-series/5186814/model/5218699

- ensure that the proper operating system is selected

- expand the Driver-Network (12) category

- scroll down to the Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 7

- download it.

- uninstall the Broadcom wireless LAN driver software from Control Panel...Programs and Features.  If you are unable to locate this, or have any questions - please include a screenshot of the Programs and Feature's screen

- check in Device Manager.  If the Broadcom wireless LAN device remains, right click on it ans select "Uninstall"  If it presents with a checkbox to remove driver software, please check the box (you want to remove the driver software).

- reboot

- install the downloaded drivers/software

- monitor for further BSOD's

I will continue with the other drivers in the morning.

Downloaded Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 sp53633.exe from HP website.
Uninstalled Broadcom 802.11 Wireless LAN Adapter dated 12/12/2011 at Control Panel.  Checked Device Manager and this software/driver was no longer listed there.
Installed Broadcom LAN Driver I'd downloaded from HP website.  Restart.  Snip attached showing Control Panel after installation.

Disengaged ethernet connection and turned wireless back on entering wireless network key.

Made an error:  I also uninstalled Broadcom Bluetooth Software 6.5.0.2300 dated 12/12/2011 at Control Panel because I thought the Broadcom Bluetooth Software sp55079.exe that I'd downloaded earlier would reinstall it.  Restarted.  The sp55079.exe automatically executed after restart but now there's no Bluetooth Software listed at Control Panel.  Device Manager does show Bluetooth Radios and two entries under Network Adapters.

Snip attached showing the five drivers I downloaded from the HP website Wednesday 18th.

Snip attahed showing Bluetooth at Device Manager.

As for the Intel graphics driver, you must uninstall the current driver (in case it's corrupted) so that the installer will let you install the same version:

- go to this page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-g7-1300-Notebook-PC-series/5186814/model/5218699

- ensure that the proper operating system is selected

- expand the Driver-Graphics (2) category

- scroll down to the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver

- download it.

- uninstall the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver software from Control Panel...Programs and Features.  If you are unable to locate this, or have any questions - please include a screenshot of the Programs and Feature's screen

- check in Device Manager.  If the Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics device remains, right click on it ans select "Uninstall"  If it presents with a checkbox to remove driver software, please check the box (you want to remove the driver software).

- reboot

- install the downloaded drivers/software

- monitor for further BSOD's

As for the Bluetooth software - don't worry about it for now.

It wasn't causing any problem that we knew of - it's just that it was disabled and (presumably) needed to be updated.

As the wifi was blamed as the cause of the problem, we'll now have to wait to see if it's fixed.

To do this, wait a week - if you don't have any BSOD's then we're pretty sure it's fixed.

Then wait another week - if you don't have any BSOD's, then we're sure that it's fixed.

Good luck!

You instructed:

As for the Intel graphics driver, you must uninstall the current driver (in case it's corrupted) so that the installer will let you install the same version

Since I'd downloaded this driver again yesterday, the website link you gave tells me this morning it was already downloaded.

I went ahead and clicked uninstall Intel HD Graphics Driver at Control Panel;  HOWEVER, just shortly after clicking uninstall, it looked like the screen went into Safe Mode and then became smaller again, AND even as the uninstaller was still working, task bar shows "Installing device driver software".

Rebooted.

Device Manager shows Intel HD Graphics Family installed, but the Intel HD Graphics Driver is NOT reinstalled at the Control Panel.  My Device Manager only shows Intel HD Graphics Family--it does not display Intel HD Graphics Drive as a separate entity.

Please advise.

It seems to me that you are overthinking the process' here.  I've been doing this online for about 15 years now, have been working on my own systems for about 20 years, and have been working as a PC technician for the last 9 years.

As I described, uninstall the graphics drivers, then install the freshly downloaded drivers.

If the installation doesn't work, then post back for further suggestions.

The display changes were because you were removing graphics drivers - so the screen had to change with each change in the graphics drivers.

The system must have some sort of a graphics driver installed so you can see what's on the screen - so it will always have some sort of graphics driver.

Also, as you need graphics drivers, they tend to grab whatever driver they think is best.

In most cases the freshly downloaded graphics driver will install anyway

There are a few cases where it won't - but usually that's alright as uninstalling the driver caused it to reinstall - which is what we were trying to do.
