OS - Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit

A few days ago my keyboard started acting weird (some buttons would act as shortcuts to open random windows on my computer), tried to restart the computer and got a blue screen during shutdown.  I didn't write down the number sequence on the blue screen but the error was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.  Restarted computer and got another blue screen after about a minute of it restarting with the same error message.  Restarted again successfully, however now when I try to shut down my computer its stuck on "Shutting Down" screen for hours and I have to force it to turn off by pressing the power button.  I mostly use my computer for online gaming, and when I started the game back up I noticed a significant decrease in my computer's performance.

I explained my issues to a friend of mine and he immediately suggested I had a rootkit virus and recommended downloading Avast! and Kingsoft PC Doctor to try and fix it.  Avast froze at about 95% of the way through installation, although after restarting my computer it runs on startup, although I can't seem to find where it's actually installed.  I ran the Junk/Privacy/Registry Cleaners on Kingsoft, it seemed to help a little bit, but not much.  I don't know if the logs from those are still available, but am happy to post them if someone knows how to get ahold of them.

Another friend recommended downloading Malwarebytes and HijackThis, told me to run a scan on Malwarebytes first and if that didn't fix it scan with HijackThis and post logs on a website such as this to have them interpreted for me.  Malwarebytes found and removed 10 issues in the registry and another 2 in other files (again don't know if logs are still available, but happy to post if told how to get ahold of them.)  Computer runs significantly better after that, but still not what it was a few days ago.  Ran the HijackThis scan and have those logs still, but after browsing through forum instructions I figured I should start at the beginning with you guys rather than just posting logs in the other topic area.

Thank you in advance for any help with this issue!

-Gimmicks

Edit: Found the logs for the 2 Malwarebytes scans.  I know it says a million times not to post logs which is why I didn't include HijackThis logs, but step 4 in "Before You Post About A Problem" says to include logs of anything you previously tried to fix.  Please don't shoot me if this was wrong!

There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

NOTE Do NOT wrap your logs in "quote" or "code" brackets.

Ok, all that is done! I'm pretty sure I did it all correctly, but feel free to chastise me if not. :oneeye:

Also, thank you so much for the speedy reply! I'm amazed there are websites out here that provide such help, in such clear and concise instructions.

Here's a couple updates that may or may not be worth mentioning.

After running those recommended scans, Firefox crashed about 5+ times last night, compared to it's normal 1-2 times a week.

After running TFC it had me reboot my computer, as it was shutting down it got stuck on "Installing Windows Update 1 of 134" for about 4 hours before I forced it to shutdown and reboot (Windows hasn't been able to update for a while, I have an unregistered copy of Windows so not sure if that is related or not.)  Upon restarting the computer it came up with a screen just before login saying "Configuring Windows updates step 1 of 3 0% complete", it didn't progress any further and just went to the normal login screen after about 1 minute (this has also been happening for awhile after any failed attempts to update Windows during previous shutdown.)

Once I logged in, Microsoft Windows opened an error screen stating "NVIDIA Driver Helper Service, Version 306.23 has stopped working."  Below are the details from the NVIDIA Driver error.

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:    APPCRASH

Are you saying that you're running pirated Windows version?

A few years ago when I busted this computer out of the closest I had a friend reformat it for me, ever since then when I start up my computer it states that Windows is unregistered.  I don't know where he got the copy of Windows, but I would assume the answer to your question is yes.
