I have an Acer Aspire XC-703G desktop and have 4gb ram and wanted to add an 8gb. The 1st of 2 slots were used by the 4gb. I installed the 8gb from crucial in the second slot and when trying to start the computer made a beeping sound. I put the 8gb in the first slot  without anything in the 2nd slot and it started fine. Then tried to put the 4gb into the second slot with the 8gb in the 1st and when trying to start encountered continuing beeping sound.

There does not seem to be an update to the BIOS.

Is the 2nd slot bad? Should I wait for an update to the BIOS?

I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks

8GB is the maximum RAM capacity for that system.

I found it at Crucial:

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/aspire-xc-703g

"Maximum memory: 8192MB"

You could use 2 of the recommended 4GB, or 1 x 8GB as you've found.
