I have an HP Pavillion a1547c running XP Pro SP3. Customer complained of no internet a few days after he got it back from me, all I did initially was backup QuickBooks company file. Internet worked. He said, "nothing happened, nobody messed with anything."

My troubleshooting steps I've taken with no success.

Ruled out any virus infections

Ran CCleaner

rebooted modem/router

Attempted to release/renew IP - IPCONFIG command not allowed

reset winsock

reset tcp/ip stack

reset firewall

ip and DNS both set to obtain automatically

updated NIC driver

used old USB to Ethernet adapter - showed connected but no packet activity

disabled onboard LAN and installed NEW NIC with same results

Other info
Firewall will not start

No active a/v product installed

connections set to automatic on Internet Options

Same results in safe mode w/ networking

Hi Robert & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

In the first paragraph of your post, you state that you took a backup of the Quickbooks file and internet started working. Could you please tell me what happened then that led to you troubleshooting the system?
