Hello everyone,

My computer is two years old, and it has always encountered problems, in varying degrees.

Those include:

  • Random BSOD on boot up.

  • Random BSOD when using it (less frequent).

  • Disappearing programs - the shortcut sometimes disappears, sometimes it doesn't, and the files vanish.

  • Visual bugs, especially when playing a game.

  • Firefox crashes (often when watching a video).

  • Firefox resets.

  • Boots up, but unable to launch any sort of program.

I have a few leads :

  • I have the impression Windows updates too often.

  • I have a 78 GB Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 Hotfix Rollup (KB2908383).

  • My GPU has a little material defect (though taking it off doesn't change a thing).

What I have done :

  • I have run memtest with no results so far.
  • I took one bar of RAM, tried with the other, no results.

  • I took off the GPU and used the integrated GPU, to no avail.

  • I updated all drivers.

I'm starting to run out of ideas. What could cause all of this mess? Could it be hardware? A faulty motherboard?
Also, I didn't build my computer, and I have no idea if my Windows 7 copy is genuine. How can I check, and can it be the cause of these problems?

Here are my specs:

Desktop
OS: Windows 7 Integral version / Service Pack 1
x64
System is 2 years old
OS install: unknown
A friend reinstalled the OS once, didn't change a thing.

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K (3.4 GHz)
GPU: VTX3D Radeon HD 7950 OC X-Edition, 3 GB
RAM: Kit Dual Channel DDR3 Crucial Ballistix Sport, 2 x 4 GB
MB: MSI Z77A-G45
Network: TP-Link TL-WN881ND
SSD: SSD Samsung Série 840 EVO, 250 GB, SATA III
HD: Western Digital Caviar Blue, 1 TB
Power supply: Super Flower Golden Green, 550W

Suggested program (Sysnative BSOD Dump) didn't work, so I tried to find and attach dumps manually.

Please help me !

Many many thanks in advance.

I'm running late for work, but don't know if your upload contains everything that we need.

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

Should the app lock up for more than 15 minutes while searching for Network information (it does this in my copy of W10), go ahead and kill the app.  Then navigate to the Documents folder and zip up the 18 reports in the SysnativeFileCollectionApp folder - then upload that with your next post.

You can also try this new app (from a friend of mine):  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.
By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.

I'll post an analysis of whatever you've uploaded either tonight or tomorrow morning (East coast of the US)

Did you try the other program that I suggested?

http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/

If that doesn't work, then I'll have another set of instructions to get the reports that I need.

In the event that the operating system is pirated, don't bother posting back as I only offer the initial analysis on pirated systems.

A quick look at the dumps that you provided showed that they weren't the normal dumps that we look at.

And, as usual, most of the WD prefixed dumps are Watchdog dumps related to DirectX (video) and they presented as STOP 0x117 errors.

The dumps ending in .tmp were more varied - blaming the OS kernel, AVG, networking, the NTFS file system.

Start with these troubleshooting steps:   http://www.sysnative.com/forums/bsod-kernel-dump-analysis-debugging-information/35-video-tdr-timeout-0x116-0x117.html#post29532
Also, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen both dtsoftbus01.sys and dtscsibus.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration):  New link (15 Aug 2012):  http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link:  http://www.disc-tools.com/download/sptd
Manual procedure here:  http://daemonpro-help.com/en/problems_and_solutions/registry_and_sptd_problems.html

Uninstall AVG (temporarily) and use Microsoft Security Essentials along with the Windows Firewall for protection while testing.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Thank you very much for your reply, it is deeply appreciated.

SysnativeBSOD doesn't work, it gets stuck at "waiting for SystemInfo". In fact, I believe my system has trouble producing minidump files. The advanced system parameters are set correctly yet the Minidump file in %SystemRoot% is empty. I changed the destination folder and verified the configuration, I'll see if it works but I don't see why it wouldn't produce minidump files when there is enough space allocated and everything is configurated properly.

In any case, I used the BSOD inspector, I'll attach the files here.

I also attached the most recent dmp files I could find on my computer, in the firefox appdata folder. Not sure if it helps.

Thanks again !

It appears that the operating system isn't legitimate.

As such, I cannot provide any further assistance.

I will be glad to help you if you continue to have these problems after installing a legitimate copy of Windows.

Good luck!

Alright, but when asked my buddy said that the version was (I quote) "legit".

I tried to find ways to confirm wether it was a genuine version or not and could not find any - there was a Microsoft page offering a program to do the check but the page does not work: https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/?displaylang=fr&control=install

How can I see if it's genuine or not?

And do you have any tips on buying Windows 7? There is no option on the Microsoft website to buy Windows 10.

If the copy is not genuine I guess I'll reinstall a verified Windows version but I have to find one first!

Thanks again for your help.

FWIW - many people aren't even aware that their system isn't legitmate.
The most common reason we hear is that "my buddy installed it for me"

A legit copy comes with a license and a product ID on a holographic type sticker

If it comes from the manufacturer of your computer, then the sticker for that version will be affixed to the computer.

There's lot's of other circumstances - but that's why computer manufacturer's and Microsoft have armies of lawyers working for them.

Here's a link on how to get genuine:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/genuine

Good luck!

Alright, I'll sort this out, follow the instructions on your post and report back. I'm kind of lost between all the retailers, but if I understood correctly getting an OEM key is enough if I'm upgrading to Windows 10 anyway.

Thanks for you help and time!

Hello again!

So it took my a while but I ended up buying Windows 8.1 and upgrading to Windows 10 through a clean install.

And right after a couple of minutes of use... a new crash. Here is the attached folder of the 4 BSODs I got.

Does this mean it's a hardware failure? It's a clean install, everything was removed, the only installed program at the moment is Firefox.

If this is an absolute "clean" install - then hardware is the most likely problem.

BUT, there can be issues with the installation media, or even with other seemingly non-related programs.

Also, "hardware" can also mean compatibility issues or even low-level driver issues.  You have AMD video drivers installed, Broadcom networking drivers, and even Intel drivers installed.

Finally, did you test the system when 8.1 was installed (before updating to W10)?

Did you test the system with W10 (build 10240) before updating to the 1511 release (build 10586)?

Your UEFI/BIOS (version 2.10) dates from 2013.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.

This device has problems in Device Manager:

Non disponible    ACPI\INT33A0\0    Les pilotes de ce périphérique ne sont pas installés.

Most likely these are the drivers for the Intel Smart Connect Technology software.

Please install the latest, W10 compatible version on your system.

From looking at the memory dumps, I'm seeing a lot of networking involvement.
Can you try disabling the wired connection and trying the wireless ?

Then, if that doesn't fix it, disable the wireless and try the wired connection.

Please start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

I didn't test Windows 8.1, I upgraded immediately. The only build I tested is the current one - so I guess I went to build 10586 straight away. But if it helps, I can always go back to Win 8.1 and see if anything changes.

Intel Smart Connect Technology support was apparently discontinued, there seems to be no Win 10 version. : (

I'll try to access the Internet through an ethernet connection and uninstall the wireless card to see if it changes anything. I'll also run the tests you listed on that page this weekend. I'd rather not update the BIOS because my computer is going bananas and can restart at any second for no apparent reason. It took me about ten minutes to access my desktop this time as I kept having more and more crashes after each boot, it's a frigging poltergeist. I swear it's possessed by some demon or something like that.

Thanks a lot for your help. I just hope this won't cost too much time and money, heh.

Will try to report back monday.

Things to try with Smart Connect:

- install using Compatibility mode on the installer (right click on the installer, select Properties, then select the Compatibility tab)

- ignore it (I don't know what/if this will cause in the way of errors)

- downgrade the system to 8.1 (or whatever version iSCT was compatible with)

DO NOT UPDATE YOUR BIOS.  A shutdown while updating it can permanently damage the system.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that this is a hardware error.

Good luck!

Well I didn't have time to actually do anything about this, my computer seems dead. There is no video output, the screen doesn't recognize it. Took the GPU out, tried using the integrated GPU through HDMI and VGA cables to no avail. It does start, the fans of both the CPU and the GPU are working, but there seems to be no video output. I didn't do anything, it just happened after a couple of consecutive crashes. RIP my friend, it seems the demon won.

What can I do know? Does this last problem give any suggestions on what went wrong? Should I take my computer to a professionnal? I don't have any spare parts so If I want to swap the PSU, the CPU, the GPU or the MB I'll have to buy those.

Edit : I'll try my screen on another device to see if its not the problem but that doesn't seem likely.

If you don't have any video, then there's not much that you can do without replacing parts.

If you can find someone to take a look at it, go ahead and do that.

Good luck!

If that's not an option, would it be correct to assume that if there is no video output the faulty part must be the mb, CPU or psu ? Because if that's the case, unless i find someone willing to check for a cheap price, am i not better off simply replacing these parts one after the other until the problem is solved ? Thing is, i don't know any good professional and all the websites i checked offer odd services like "antivirus installation" or "speed optimization".

Thanks again for your help, too bad i was too late, still your websites is a goldmine of info.
