Spybot Anti-Beacon is a standalone tool which was designed to block and stop the various tracking (telemetry) issues present in Windows 10.

It has since been modified to block similar tracking functionality in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems.

Anti-Beacon is small, simple to use, and is provided free of charge.

It was created to address the privacy concerns of users of Windows 10 who do not wish to have information about their PC usage sent to Microsoft.

Simply clicking “Immunize” on the main screen of Anti-Beacon will immediately disable any known tracking features included by Microsoft in the operating system.

Does anyone have any experience of this program?

Any +'s or -'s  ?

I doubt that many people have much experience with it because it's so new.  However, Spybot Search & Destroy is one of the longest-lived and well-respected anti-spyware/anti-malware programs out there (yet another of those third-party programs that probably won't "go app" ever).

I have very little doubt that this program does what it says it does given the reputation of Safer Networking.

Nota bene:  many of the same functions have existed and have been in use since Windows 7 (if not earlier).   There's a good reason for my "tempest in a shot glass" comments surrounding the new outrage about longstanding practices.

I read the Anti-Beacon Forum posts, and they are mostly positive. A few issues with Mail and Calendar, but there are work-arounds. Also, some AVs don't like it, but it certainly seems to solve the problem many of you are having with Win 10 and telemetry.

I have used Anti-Beacon since I updated to Windows 10, back in November. I have not run into any problems, I have it installed on my work computer (Windows 10 Pro x64) and on my home computer (Windows 10 Pro x86). In both cases Avast Anti-Virus is installed on both computers.

Anti-Beacon did install a few entries into my HOST file

Here is the list
