Hello All,  I have an old HP Pavilion dv4000 running Windows XP Home Edition version 2002.

I use it at work just to access Alldata.com for the car dervice manuals online

In my attempts to make it faster, I have been deleting stuff here and there and last week, I deleted what I believe was called "Quick Launch Buttons" and since, have been unable to start any programs.  Everything is there, I can see all my documents and believe it or not, the computer is faster then ever starting because nothing will run.  If I browse to "Program Files/Internet Explorer/Iexplore.exe, it runs for half a second and disappears.  Nothing "runs".  But everything is still there.

I do not believe I have any viruses or infections of any kind.  I believe I created this problem by deleting the wrong thing in the "Add-Remove Programs"  I didn't manually delete anything.  I just removed the wrong program and now made the computer fast but unable to launch anything.  I can open "My Documents" and browse anything there and browse the whole computer.  I just can't launch anything.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thank you

I see no such button/item...on my XP install.

Have you tried a system restore to an earlier point?

Can you boot into safe mode and run anything?

I don't see that either. I wonder if he may be referring to the HP Quick Launch feature that was on selected models of his computer.

However, I don't see how removal of such would be the reason for his problems.

As you have suggested, a system restore or a trial run in safe mode may be his best bet at the moment.
