Strange folder on OS partition

Today i noticed a strange folder on my OS (Windows 7 Pro x64) partition.  The folder is called: $$current$$


I have hidden files and protected OS files enabled and the folder is empty (folder was created at 4:44AM). Does anyone know what that folder is?
