Can't log in to account on computer?

After a power outage my computer wouldn't turn on. It started to turn on and now I when I try to log into my account it crashes. I can use the guest account but I would like to know more about what is happening to my computer.

My wild guess is that your regular user profile got corrupted somehow.  I take it the built-in admin acct is not active?

Computer make and model please and OS version - this could be either a hardware or an OS problem. this information will help me decide.
