I recommend two external usb hard-drives, Macium Reflect.  Make OS and data partition backups at least bi-monthly if not weekly.

I use Acronis True Image [not free] and Macrium Reflect Pro [not free] so that I have two programs making parallel restorable backups.

Mr. Meyer mentioned another very good freebie!  There are so many very good freebies out there.

I got MR pro because of the easiness of making WinPE/Macrium usb and dvd boots.

easeus todo backup free is what I'm using right now.  created a bootable USB in case the system crash. Backup photos and videos and some other important files regularly into an external hard drive.

Have you tried the Veeam Endpoint Backup solution?  It's a free app that I use to backup my files.
