I do not have any records of Windows 7 updates installed since September.

I do not want Windows 10 installed as it downloaded files at least a dozen times and failed to set u[p Windows 10.  As a result I switched off automatic installation and asked to be informed. as the files took ages to be downloaded to no avail. ( I only have a low speed as I live in a former (still) black spot area)

I must be missing important updates and as I have always been security -conscious I am worried about this.

Please, is there anything I can do to avoid going back to automatic installation (With all the Windows 10 files taking priority) but see what I need installed?

I click on check for updates and it just goes on searching......

I have clicked on show hidden files but that hasn't helped.

I have not had any trouble with Windows Update until now.

I really would appreciate your help.

My thanks in advance!

If you want to upgrade to Windows 10 then you can do it with Windows 10 Media Creation Tool .

If you don't want to upgrade to Windows 10 and stop Windows Update downloading Windows 10 visit below website Url link. You should also use Windows Disk Cleanup tool to delete downloaded Windows 10 updates files.

I would try running the following tools:

Auto Reset Windows Update Components - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

System Update Readiness Tool Download - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858

Let us know if the situation changes.

Thank you, FreeBooter and Hamluis for your help.

I have uninstalled the file recommended in the links.

I have used the Disk Cleanup Tool.

I can now see that I have 15 important updates to install. I click on these, as usual but instead of their being downloaded  and installed I am taken back to the Windows 10 download. I am in a Catch 22 situation.

I did want Windows 10 but after more than a dozen failed attempts I gave up. Now I think I want to wait until next year before considering it. The trouble is I seem to be unable to download important security installations for Windows 7.

Others seem to be complaining about the same problem!

Is there anything else I can do, please?

Mentioned this problem on the phone to Older son and he suggested I try using GWX Control Panel.I have done so and have been able to download and install 14 updates. One of them is KB3035583 which I had  uninstalled earlier!!

The "Download Windows 10 problem appears to have been dealt with (touch wood).

My THANKS again Freebooter and Hamluis for your help.
