Hi I've scanned w/ Ad Aware SE and Spybot 1.3, after my computer started acting funny, and was able get rid of a lot of things. I use Mozilla Firefox, but I decided to try using Yahoo's Anti-Spy to see if there were any problems on my IE (which I was sure there was, which was why I started using Firefox). I got rid of the things that came up (there were hijackers, adware, malware, tracking cookies), but after that, my AOL instant messenger was acting weird, where the after I logged on, I got an "illegal operation" message w/ this under details: AIM caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0167:bff7b9f6.

So I've tried using Hijack This (also to see if there were any otehr problems on my poorly messed up computer) and this was my log:

Hello act809, Welcome to BleepingComputer.com. There is a lot of CRAP to clean out, not sure how it is affecting AIM just yet. We will see.

First, please look at this item for me. search for internat.exe and right click on it then open properties. Look at the link under the line. The properties information should look like what is described in the link. If not, please supply me with as much of the properties information as possible.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [internat.exe] internat.exe
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintas...brary/internat/

Open Task Manager, then on the Processes Tab, look for these items and end process on them if they are there:
AYEGEWY.EXE
WUPDATER.EXE

Use these instruction to enable hidden files:
MANUAL INSTR FOR ENABLE HIDDEN FILES
* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Scan with HijackThis and check each of these line items:

With all browser windows and programs closed, click on "Fix Checked"

I have a request here from the boss, grinler. He would like a copy of EWUPDATER before you delete it. If possible, copy the file to an email and send it to him at: grinler@yahoo.com He would appreciate this.

Open Windows Explorer (Windows key+e), drill down and delete the following files if found, just the file not the folder.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\AYEGEWY.EXEC:\WINDOWS\EWUPDATER.EXE

Run clean manager: Start, Run type "cleanmgr" without the quotes then ok. Allow windows to remove anything it locates.

Empty the recycle bin and reboot the computer. Using Add Reply to stay in this same thread, post a new log. Include the information asked for above, and any feedback you think we should have.

Thanks...pskelley

Thank you for your response!

Regarding internat.exe:
When I searched the file, I found two things:
- The first was internat.exe in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder; the properties of this one is like what is described in the link.
- The second was internat.exe in C:\Program Files\Support.com\backup\in . Within the folder was 28672_5559d61cd_ (file). The properties info looked like what was described in the link as well.

This computer has OS Windows ’98, so I did not have the Task Manager/Processes Tab, but when I checked for running programs (Ctrl+Alt+Del), Ayegewy was running, but I did not find the WUPDATER.EXE

Again, because I have 98, I wasn’t able to go through all the instructions you gave for enabling hidden files; there is no “Hide protect OS system files” button.

I followed your instructions in the order in which you wrote them, so although I was able to find and delete C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\AYEGEWY.EXE, I could not find C:/WINDOWS/EWUPDATER.EXE

..Just a little curious though; what are ayegewy.exe and ewupdater.exe? I’m not quite sure about ewupdater but I know ayegewy has been sitting around on my computer for about two years.

Here is the new log:

Hello act809, First let me apologize. I work with Windows Xp Operating System so much, I am sorry that I issued instructions for it. I will try to not let that happen again. Let me address your question as to what those two items are.
The first on "ayegewy.exe" is unidentifiable
and as such is is probably a random named trojan of some type. Try a www.google.com search yourself. With over 1.5 billion or so entries, anything Google can not identify is going to be removed. As a malware writer, one of the benefits besides $$ is you get to call your garbage anything you wish.

The other item, "ewupdater.exe" is EasyWebSearch adware updater, and you can view CastleCops information here: http://computercops.biz/startuplist-6074.html and view more information via a Google search if you wish. This is the item management wanted to access so they could learn more about it.

This item: "internat.exe" appears to be valid as your feedback indicate it has to do with "Microsofts multi-lingual features in Microsoft Windows. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated."

Let's remove these two. you may remove any 016 item that you know you do not use any longer. They are ActiveX contols, and would be replaced if you visit the site again.

Scan with HijackThis and check these two lines:

Close all browser windows and programs and click on "Fix Checked:

Having said all of this, let me say that you did a great job following my WindowsXp instructions, and I thank you for your hard work. You reward is a clean log, and now I have some great instructions from Tony Klein, Texruss and ChrisRLG to help you stay that way:
