Hi all. My problem is as simple as the title: I'm having some serious FPS issues with games/even browsers. My laptop isn't spectacular but for the things I do / games I play there's no reason the FPS should drop to the point it does..

Specs:

AMD E-300 APU w/ Radeon ; HD Graphics 1.30 GHz

4.00 gb/ram (3.60 usable)

64bit OS

If I need to tell you guys more, let me know. I use no Norton, or anything of the sort, as I just reformatted my computer (Literally, 2 days ago) and all I have done is install a couple games.. Now, the strange part. When I play Guild Wars 1 (3d game) I have a consistent 60 fps, with all max settings. On the other hand, I play League of Legends and end up with a varying 10-30 fps, and when 'teamfights' happen I drop to 00-08.. It's like that with every other game, except Guild Wars.. Even Terraria, a practically 8-bit and <100mb game.

I have no clue why it's doing this -- any help is appreciated!

EDIT:: It was also doing this pre-format, as well.

Why do you not have a antivirus installed?  It's not a good idea to go online, especially if you are downloading programs, without a antivirus.

Did this computer every play these games with decent pfs figures?

I'll install one when I feel I need it. I'm no end-all be-all computer expert, but I do know my way around them.. Army/college both, networking mainly.

To answer the second question I'm honestly not sure. My brother gave me this laptop a couple months ago, he owned it for a year or so. Hard to get in touch with him, but I'll try and ask.

I suspect that you are asking more of this notebook than it is capable of delivering.

Unless you want to be infected you really need to have the firewall enabled and a antivirus installed all the time.

If you had a backdoor Trojan get access to your computer it could access all of your personal data, passwords, online banking information, etc.  Something like this could require reinstalling the operating system to remove it.

EDIT: Misread first sentence. Maybe so, but how would a 3d game with 100% high/max settings keep a solid 60fps without many (if any) dropped, yet a 2d side-scroller (and many other games) that is practically 8-bit lucky to push around 10 fps? I just don't understand it.

EDITEDIT: And it's not just games, even browser pages take some time to load, and are very choppy (chrome+IE)

I understand the risks and appreciate the concern, but again I know my way around a computer. I don't visit but a few sites, and play the games I have. If there comes a time when I'm going to download something/go to sites I don't usually -- I will download one then.

As for the firewall, I have it disabled so I can play on LAN with some friends.

Bump -- just looking for any other possible answers, if any exist, ;_;

Service host: local network (restricted) has like - (1) - (11) and they all take up massive amounts of disc/cpu/memory according to task manager.. like 80%+
