Reading through the other posts I see that my particular problem wasn't addressed.

I have brought out of retirement an older Dell Latitude C840 laptop which is running Windows XP. I connected a mouse to it and it works fine. Now my wife would prefer to use it and she is left-handed and also prefers the single click on all icons.

I went into the Mouse setup but the controls there only show the touchpad settings. There is no way to get to the mouse-specific control settings. How can I do this?

You can do both in control panel under hardware and sound, a few clicks and she will be happy.

Thanks for your reply.

That didn't work. There is nothing in Control Panel called simply "Sound". Remember this is Win XP not Win 7. There is "Sounds and Audio Devices" but is is only that, nothing for the mouse.

Hardware not sound but under hardware & sound.

Again, I'm referring to an older Dell laptop C840 with Windows XP SP3 on it. There is no mention of "hardware & sound" on the control panel choices. The only one that has the word "hardware" is "Add Hardware." This is easy with Windows XP desktop but not on a laptop.
