While trying to install windows updates yesterday they downloaded ok but hung for 5 hrs installing.

The updates were kb3097617; kb8890830; kb3099046; k2267602.

Tried a manual install got defender to dl and update but it also would not install.

I posted in the Windows help forum but no reply yet. So I thought I would ask here as well.

Thank you.

When I tried to install updates on the computer, they hung forever, until I plugged into the charger

Probably Windows is trying to not install things when not plugged in for protecting the damage of not properly installed updates. Try plugging it in

Lets run the Windows Update and :

Press WindowsX

Click on Control Panel

Click on System and Security

Under Security and Maintenance, click on Troubleshoot common computer problems

On the left side, click View All

Now run these troubleshooters

Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Windows Update

When I run the windows update trouble shooter it hangs.  When I run the back ground troubleshooter it finds no problems.

All run from admin account.

Apparently there is no answer in the windows 10 forums available either.  What is suggested by others has been tried and no joy there either.  Maybe we will soon be getting an update to fix the updater.

Apparently I have no win 10 updates at all.  Updated history is now empty.  Clicking on uninstall updates does bring up a list of win 8 updates and 2 c++ updates for 10.

Checking my event logs every windows 10 update has failed with differing error codes. Ran the trouble shooters again and it says it fixed some problems but it can't fix the data base problem.  Now what do I do?  A recovery seems a bit drastic at this point I have only been using this pc a few months.  May not have a choice tho.

Thank you

For now, you might want to try SFC Scan

SFC Scan
1. Right-click on the Start w8start.png button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
 2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
   sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click on this file and choose Send To...Compressed (zipped folder). Please upload this zipped file CBS.zip to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.
