First let me start by introducing myself to this forum. I've lurked on and off for a while and now i'm a member. So hi every one i'm Ty Dye :guitar: :hello:

Now to my problem. This could get very long winded because i don't want to leave out a single detail, so i apologize for my lack of brevity in advance.

Okay my computer, which was given to me is programmed to wipe away everything to a certain point when it is turned off. So i have to reinstall my web browser everytime i get on it. Which is fine but lately it's been acting up.

The default browser on my computer is Internet Explorer. I usually use the IE browser to get on Google in order to access FireFox and download it; here's the problem(s). First IE suddenly stopped letting me access Google everytime i would try it would send me to the Cannot Find Server page that says "Page cannot be displayed" You know like when your internet is cut off so i had to start using Bing to get to FireFox.

Then for some reason IE started displaying a stripped down version of the Mozilla site. My default IE is an old version and doesn't have Flash Player so i figured that was the problem but it wasn't doing that before. But i didn't fret because i could still download FireFox from the Mozilla site even in it's stripped down state, but now IE stopped letting me download FireFox from Mozilla all together.

When i attempt to download FireFox from Mozilla the same Cannot Find Server page that pops up when i try to use Google pops up. I even tried to download Google Chrome using my IE browser and the same thing happens. So as a result i have to use Softpedia to download FireFox and even then it only works on FireFox not Chrome. But after i've downloaded FireFox i can access Google, Mozilla & Chrome without a hitch.

But this is not the only problem i have. Since IE stopped letting me download FireFox my computer also won't open most antivirus programs i download even in FireFox and Chrome. It'll download them but when i go to click the file so it opens, nothing happens. My favorite cleaner is SuperAntiSpyware and it won't open on my computer anymore no matter how many times i download it. And it was just working the other day. My videos & music also load slower as a result of this

I'm at a total lost here i hope someone here knows what this could be and is willing to help. Once again sorry for the long winded post and Thanks in advance.

Who is the owner of this system?  Do you have admin privileges?

I honestly don't know what that means. The computer belonged to my aunt. She gave it to me years ago. It was used in a school before they got new computers, She was a teacher.

If the computer belonged to a school...that could possibly account for the symptoms/behavior that you have described.  The school would have set the computer up as it desired, with controls/procedures that benefit the school.

This computer probably came from a library. Thawspace is used by Deepfreeze where a person logs off the computer or shuts down, the OS reverts back to it's orginal settings to clean any malware that may have infected the computer. Trying to diagnose a problem with Deepfreeze installed is problematic at best.

There are also many programs out of date except Firefox and you are also running SP2. That alone is a serious security risk. You are still at Java 2. And, you are running Novell Client 2 which should not even be on a standalone computer.

Is this computer used for just email and browsing the internet? If so I would recommend you try Puppy Linux here. Download the iso file and burn the disk using Imgburn. Boot the CD and see if it meets your needs. It runs from RAM and the CD. It can also be installed to a Hard Drive.  If the PAE version does not work then use the Non-PAE version. If you decide it meets your needs and you wish to install it to the hard drive post your question on installing in the linux forum.

tahr-6.0.2_PAE.iso

tahr-6.0.2_noPAE.iso

See this page on uninstalling DeepFreeze. Before you try this I would back up any personal info you have on the compute if any.
