Hi

New to the forum. I've seen that other people have had a similar problem.

My laptop crashes every time I scan and then try to clean the issues identified by Adwcleaner. Below is my logfile.

This is linked to a problem I have with yahoo constantly coming up as my search engine and homepage even though its actually google.

Any idea how I can fix this?

Hi Gman77 & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

Could you please follow the below instructions and then upload the ZIP file with your next post?

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

The ZIP file contains lots of information which would help us in diagnosing why the system is crashing when AdwCleaner is running.

In case of any problems, feel free to post back ^_^

Greetings Gman77 ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-

Right now, there is a known bug in AdwCleaner which is closing the Mcafee's Deep Defender Service which in fact is crashing the system since it is a critical service and is necessary else it would allow anyone to close Mcafee ;)
The developers of Adwcleaner are aware of this problem and are working on fixing it.

But, according to the stack, it seems that Avast initiated the TerminateProcess() call. On checking your module list, I saw that there are 3 Antivirus/Antimalware products installed on the system -

1. Avast
2. Mcafee
3. Malwarebytes

It is not a good idea to have multiple antivirus/antimalware products on a single system because that leads to competition (Technically, Race Conditions) amongst the Antivirus/Antimalware which could often lead to crashes.

Right now, I would advice you to remove all the 3 products using the below tools and then installing only 1 of them (Although you can install MBAM on top of the other 2 but I won't suggest that) -
Below is the link to the removal tools (Make sure you use them to uninstall the above products) -

1. Avast - http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
2. Mcafee - http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
3. MBAM - http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-clean.exe

Let me know how it goes ^_^

My laptop crashes every time I scan and then try to clean the issues identified by Adwcleaner. Below is my logfile.

Hi Gman77,

I'm in contact with Xplode, who is the developer of AdwCleaner.

Please start AdwCleaner (v 5.013) again. The database should be updated automatically.
Do another scan with AdwCleaner and press the Cleaning-button again.

Xplode has added the process DDSSvc.exe to the whitelist, so cleaning should work fine now.

Please let me know if this problem has been fixed.

Thank you!

Hi both

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I uninstalled the following programs but when I ran Adwcleaner my laptop crashed in the same way.

1. Avast
2. Mcafee
3. Malwarebytes

All I'm trying to do is get rid of the malware or issue that is making my search engine yahoo when it's google.

Are there any other measures or program you would recommend I use for this issue?

Thanks

Hi G ^_^,

Could you please re-run the Sysnative App and then upload the latest Dump file so that we could analyse it. I would suggest you to delete the current executable of Adwcleaner and then re-download the latest version.

We need to solve your BSOD problem before I could redirect (I am a trainee right now so the rules don't allow me to help you with Malware as of now) you to the sub-forum for helping you out with the Search Page problem.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Greetings G ^_^,

Sorry to say but I was wrong in reporting this correctly. On finding the Image name, I failed to check the path of the executable on the system but rather used Google to find more information on this executable. Furthermore, I committed another mistake while searching i.e. I searched for "DDsvc.exe" rather than "DDSSvc.exe" (I missed the extra S).

The systems are still crashing because the executable belongs to Dell software. The following software was installed on the your system -
ddssvc.exe	c:\program files\dell\dell data services\ddssvc.exe	7636	1.1.6.0	44.86 KB (45,936 bytes)	2014-11-13 11:05 AM
dfssvc.exe	c:\program files\dell\dell foundation services\dfssvc.exe	8152	2.2.65.0	113.70 KB (116,424 bytes)	2015-08-18 2:11 PM
mdlcsvc.exe	c:\program files\dell\dell help & support\mdlcsvc.exe	8120	2.0.366.0	48.70 KB (49,864 bytes)	2015-08-24 4:32 PM
deliveryservice.exe	c:\program files (x86)\dell digital delivery\deliveryservice.exe	7344	3.1.1002.0	231.88 KB (237,448 bytes)	2015-03-16 12:28 PM
As per the latest dump data available, Adwcleaner is now closing MDLCSVC.exe

I have notified the developers about my mistake. Hopefully, a resolution would be made available soon.

Once again, really sorry for the confusion :(

If I were you, I would have waited for Adwcleaner to get fixed :)

Just wait for a bit. I am sure Xplode (The creator of Adwcleaner) would be working on this :)

I fail to understand this fascination with AdwCleaner. It' a lower rated product in the genre. There are better ones.

Just run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware, and get it over with.

FYI: You only run these once or twice, they are not intended to be running continuously, as they would interfere with with your primary AV.

One AV, and Windows Firewall is all you need.

Bill
