I have a Dell XPS that has been sitting un-used and un-plugged for several months.  Hooked it up today and it keeps showing "strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"

F1 only makes the same message appear.

F2 takes me to the setup utility and I can see that under "Hard-disk Drive Sequence" it shows "Hard disk drive (not installed)"

HELP !!!!!!!!!!

Remove the battery for a couple of minutes then press the power button for 20 seconds while computer is turned off and unplugged. Reseat the mobo power cable including your hard drive power/data connection. It's also possible that the CMOS battery is weak as it needs replacement. No guarantees this would work but this are the first things I would do in this case.
