I'm posting my issue in both places (Windows 10/Crashes + Malware) as I'm not sure what the problem is being caused by, but I've been using BleepingComputer as a reference when it comes to my DIY PC repairs & problem solving (which has very likely led me here, as a registered user asking for help).

I purchased a laptop from Fry's Electronics mid August 2015 for my return to school & classes this fall. I have used the laptop with little problems in the past month, however I have encountered A LOT of issues in the past week. Excel & Word documents causes PC shutdowns, & Disk Usage (per the Task Manager) ~100%.

Backstory & My plea for assistance:

1. Laptop that was purchased was a floor model so it came with applications installed already (as well as "Fry's Electronics" admin user name which I have yet to be able to change).

2. Originally, I had installed my legal & purchased copy of Office 2010. For class assignments & as a general requirement, I was forced to look into Office 2013 (which is no longer available!). I have recently purchased Office 365 & have all of Microsoft Office 2016 installed. This is where my problem begins...

2a. I have been unable to set these programs to be the default when opening similar .doc/.xls documents (as in Start --- Documents --- C++ Programming 120 Homework), & have ONLY been able to open these documents with the Microsoft Office application open (Within Word 2016, I can open any word documents on the PC, but those documents cannot be opened unless you're opening files from the Word 2016 program.)

Since this time, I have had probably 40 laptop crashes in the past week. Many hours lost on assignments that were lost in the crash. Many frustrating occurances in class, while taking notes, where 45 minutes of lecture notes are wiped out due to a crash.

Disk usage hovers around 100% often, & to be quite honest I spent a lot of money on this laptop (>1000$, 16gb ram 1tb hard drive etc) so you can imagine the frustration that despite the investment I have been unable to rely on it when needed.

I am familiar with the process, although I do not currently have any of the tools used for these diagnostics downloaded onto my laptop, I will do WHATEVER is necessary to resolve this problem. The fate of my college education depends on it!

Thank you in advance for your time.

PS: Busy schedule, & I will attempt to check this regularly, but I'll need instruction on how to set up email notification so I don't allow assistance to go without response for very long. Thank you again, and I apologize for my complete lack of appropriate terminology.

Please uninstall MSI Dragon Gaming Center.  This will be the first thing that's causing problems - but it may not be the only thing.
Several MSI components use the NTIOLib_X64.sys driver - but it's often difficult to pin down exactly which version is the problem.

In this case, also please uninstall the MSI Super Charger program.

Here's the output from the debugger on the very last memory dump that shows the location of the suspect drivers:

1: kd> lm vm NTIOLib_X64

There is issue in your MSI drivers. Reinstall the driver and scan with ADWcleaner.

Do NOT use AdWare Cleaner as instructed by deejhayvinz

The use of malware tools is not allowed outside the malware removal forums.

Please follow the instructions of usasma

At this time malware is not indicated. I closed your Malware Removal Logs topic.

Do not start multiple topics about the same issue. It causes confusion for you and those helping you.

Of course OP should follow any/all seasoned BC techs instructions first & foremost. Queen-Evie, if I just happened to be the first poster, would recommending Windows Repair (All in One)'s repair MSI be allowed to be mentioned in this forum? If not, please advise, thanks! I'd suggest that we first fix the biggest problem - the BSOD's

Hopefully this'll also fix the 100% disk usage.

After getting that under control it'll be much easier to try to fix the Office problems.

OK so I have removed the recommended programs, however since doing so I have experienced multiple crashes (Probably at least 5 today).

Truthfully I didn't download any of the MSI stuff & I'm not committed to it whatsoever. If it's even slightly contributing towards my current problem, am I safe to remove all of it?

IE TrueColor, etc

Secondly, and I say this at the risk of looking like a complete bafoon when it comes to computers, regarding the information that you provided in the section "Third Party Drivers". I would remove all of them but I don't see any of it listed in the Uninstall Program list. What is the best way for me to go about seeking updates and/or deleting these drivers that are partially responsible for my problem?

SteveT24, pretend you did not see my earlier comment about Windows Repairs (All in One) -- that was a related inside question for Queen-Evie.  Do only what the seasoned BC techs advise you to do - you won't go wrong!

Yea I've only followed Usasma's instructions, and I've done so step by step. The beauty of this website is the collective effort & that members of the forum that aren't registerred as professionals can use these troubleshooting exercises as practice if they're active in the field or pursuing a career in the field.

My apologies for posting in both forums, I was just overwhelmed with these current laptop issues from something I was counting on to be reliable at the price I paid.

And for what it's worth, between the time of my last post and this one, I've already crashed 3 times... very frustrated.

Yes, when such happens to me [from different causes] -- very frustrating to me also!  I sometimes say some choice words to the computer.  My doing that doesn't fix anything over here though.

Is it too late to return laptop to Frys?  If so, did they tell where the recovery partition is?  Or, give you either an OEM or MS-blue Windows install DVD?  I can only imagine how very important your school work is!!

"...Since this time, I have had probably 40 laptop crashes in the past week. Many hours lost on assignments that were lost in the crash. Many frustrating occurances in class, while taking notes, where 45 minutes of lecture notes are wiped out due to a crash..."

The only solution I can think of here, for the present, until the long-term solutions are found, is to set everything to automatically save every 5-10 minutes; and you have to know where those saves are.

I apologize for the delay in responding (and I still have many other topics that I haven't responded to).

I'm having some health issues, and some house problems that are taking away from my time online.

The issue with MSI systems is that the developers have used the same driver in several programs.

They use different versions and store them in different places on the system.
Also, this driver is known to be associated with BSOD events, so hunting down each and every instance is a pain.

The first quote box shows the location of some of the drivers that I'm concerned about - this will be similar for the other drivers that we haven't located yet (in most cases)

Search the hard drive for NTIOLib_X64.sys - you should see at least 4 or 5 instances in different MSI folders (this doesn't include any instances in other Windows system folders).

DO NOT delete them - just let us know what you find.

Uninstalling the MSI programs is up to you - but if you uninstall something that you want back later on, it may be difficult to get it from MSI (so check their website before uninstalling)

FYI - I often use "removing" or "deleting" in place of "uninstalling" - sorry if it's confusing.  I'm trying to recognize when I do it and then go back and change them to "uninstalling.

DO NOT remove drivers unless I ask you to.  The driver lists that I post are for reference only - for you if you you're technically inclined, for me to remind me of what's happening in the system, and for others who may be following this topic but don't have the time to extract that info.

I only suggest removing things if I think that it may help the problem.  And, if I'm unsure, I'll state it when I ask you to remove it.

Some things that you can remove can cause the system to become unbootable - that's why I ask you to remove things from Control Panel...Programs and Features.  Using that will help to prevent any bootup problems.  If there are difficulties in removing drivers, I can suggest safe ways to do it - but I don't think that we need to try that yet.

If you're still crashing, please zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump folder and upload it with your next post.
If you're unable to zip it up from there, copy it to your Desktop and zip it up there.
