Hi,

Since I changed to Windows 10 Pro I ran into BSOD-problems: DPC Watchdog violation. I never saw a blue screen, always black after trying to activate my computer again after I didn't use it for some time; something between half an hour and hours later. I have to wait until the computer restarts itself. It doesn't happen every day but, on the other hand, sometimes twice a day.

Searching for solutions I ran into all kinds of solutions but none of them did the job for me or wasn't appropriate.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised when it had to do with my Nividia-card since it appears impossible to upgrade it to the latest  GeForce Game Ready Driver, version 355.98 (22-09-2015). While I see a message at the bottom of the screen saying that it's busy downloading, nothing shows in the progress dialogbox. I stopped the process after 45'. Tried several times by the way.
I don't play games on my computer other than Solitaire and the like, have never ever even downloaded one.

Thanks for any help solving this.

KR, Leo

Sysnative report must be zipped up to upload it.

If it's still too big, upload it to a free file-hosting service (such as OneDrive or DropBox), ensure that it's shared, then post a link to it here.

While waiting for a reply, please:
1.  Get ALL available Windows Updates.  It may take several trips to get them all
2.  Get ALL available, compatible updates for your OS from the manufacturer's website (to include BIOS/UEFI).
3.  Start with these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html
4.  If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html

Hi usasma,

ad 1: Windows is reported to be up to date.
ad 2: Checked the Dell website and don't find any update link, so assume I am good.
ad 3: I allready started following the instructions on the site: HDD Diagnostics.

Downloaded Seatools iso to desktop, burned it to a CD (with Roxio, not imgburn), changed the bootorder, restarted the computer and Seatools started up. After agreeing to the terms I saw the Seatools screen, which changed in a very short time and presented me the following (unfortunately I couldn't make a prntscr):

Selected Drive Information
No Hard Drives Found. If you believe this to be incorrect...... try again.

Test information and results
Scanning for controllers
No controllers detected
Device scan complete

I did try again by the way but with the same result.

There is no external HD connected.

I am afraid this is not what you are looking for, is it?

KR, Leo

Not it's not what we're looking for - but it's not unusual.

Try running Seatools for Windows from within Windows.

I'll try to get to the zip file later on today or, at the latest, tomorrow morming - I'm running late for work right now.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version A05) dates from 2011.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.

Most of the BSOD's seem to point to accelern.sys - a driver for the Dell Free Fall sensor on your system.

Please:

- uninstall the free fall sensor from Control Panel...Programs and Features (it may also be known as tha ST MicroElectronics Accelerometer)

- download a fresh copy of the latest, W10 compatible version

- install the freshly downloaded driver

- monitor for further BSOD's

Also, please update the older drivers (as available) in the list below.  Links are provided below to help you research them.

Feel free to skip the PxHlpa64.sys driver as it's not easily updated and usually doesn't have problems.

The drivers starting with mbm3... are probably associated with a Mobile Broadband Device and must be updated to a W10 compatible version.

Thanks for the reply. Need time to follow your instructions.

Could you elaborate a little more on this advice:

Try running Seatools for Windows from within Windows.

Go to: http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/

Agree to the terms by clicking the "I Accept" button

Follow the instructions to download and install Seatools for Windows.

Once installed, run the Long/Extended test to see the status of the hard drive.

Hi usasma,

Finally had the time to follow your instructions.

What I did:

- updated UEFI/BIOS to version A12;

- uninstalled Accelerometer P11 and installed a later version: v2.00.10.33 (A10)

Will go through all your other instructions but those two were supposed to be critical, if I understood well.

KR, Leo

Hi usasma,

Sorry I am not in a position right now to be very active.

Still experience the crashes.

Have not updated the other drivers, hope to be able to do that tomorrow.

KR, Leo

Hi usasma,

Okay, tried to run Seatools in Windows.

After the scan it showed a driver (WD-WXL1AC042559) wich I checked. I choose Basic test > Long generic but the system crashed when it tested some 50%. I tried two more times but without any luck. The short generic test finished. I looked for a log but only found the log where it shows which tests had been completed.

For your information:

- problems started after I upgraded to W10, so never had BSOD's before;

- in the beginning it happened once every two weeks;

- after I upgraded the drivers (see above post # 10) it happens several times a day;

- it's impossible to finish the Seatools-(long generic)test.

KR, Leo

P.S. Still have to upgrade the other drivers but need to find the time.

Just in case there are any language difficulties, I'd like to suggest this website: https://www.schoonepc.nl/

It's a friend of mine that I haven't spoken to in years - but he's very good with Windows problems.

Please download and try the scan from the free version of HDTune:  http://www.hdtune.com/download.html

The free version is about ½ way down the page - immediately below the HDTune Pro version (it's simply called HDTune).

I suspect a bad hard drive and am asking for other tests so that we can be sure (before I suggest buying a new hard drive and getting recovery media to reinstall Windows).

Hi usasma,

Language is not a problem; nevertheless a great site as far as I know from the past.

I add a HDTune screenshot and wait for your comment.
