Hello folks,

I had a working 8.1 installation for months on a Lenovo Ideapad S510p Touch. I updated to W10 a month or two back and had BSoDs, so in an attempt to revert, I began installing 8.1 and got a BSoD in the middle of the install. (I used the media creation tool from MS and a flash drive.) I used the Novo button on 9/20 to revert to the factory install (complete with bloatware) but have still been seeing BSoDs, even after completing all Windows updates. The BSoDs are really annoying because I have to remove the battery, hold the power button, insert the battery, and actually power on to see the screen illuminate. Otherwise, I just see a dark screen and an illuminated button.

After using the Novo button, I saw a UMonit64, .dll error message on boot until I removed the file. I’m not sure if that’s relevant, but when I searched for the issue, some recommended uninstalling optional Windows updates. I wonder if this is all a driver incompatibility issue. I will be so grateful for anyone who’s willing to help me crack this case! I think of myself as somewhat of a guru, but I’ve never had anything persist across the Holy Windows Reinstall. Stumped!

Thank you!

PS: I’m on 8.1, so perfmon didn’t automatically generate a report. I’m running Driver Verifier now.

Hi, please run a memtest diagnostic for the ram sticks including the hard drive (just in case). Check for the latest chipset, video and other drivers by Lenovo Support site. After running memory, hard drive and drivers update. Post the individual results including the additional scans below.

Download MiniToolBox and open/run the program.
When open, checkmark or select all options then click Go.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

Try downloading Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.
. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot
. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard
. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post.

When was the last time that you reinstalled Windows.  The systeminfo.txt report says 20 September - is that right?

Your UEFI/BIOS (version 89CN38WW) dates from 2014.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.

Please check to be sure that you have ALL available Windows Updates.

UMonit64.exe is some sort of ChangeIcon application - it may relate to some sort of USB video thing, but this is an uncertain guess based on my internet searches.

Do you have any idea of what it belongs to?

FYI - random error codes that span different installations of the OS are usually indicative of a hardware/compatibility/low-level driver issue.

Out of 11 memory dumps there were 6 different BSOD  (aka STOP or BugCheck) error codes.  The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things (the list is not in any sort of order):
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case.  Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html or http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html ).

Please get a head start on the hardware diagnostics - they are located here:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html
