This isn't a question, I just wanted to share an experience I had a few days ago. On July 11, 2006 Microsoft ended support for Windows 98SE, yet I had a friend who's hard drive died and we had to install Windows 98se onto a new drive to get her computer back up and running.
I could not get any updates, nor was I able to get Internet Explorer to update to version 6. This was causing other problems with Adobe downloads and flash and a few others.
Well, she still has AOL, so I put on an older version 9 of AOL and it automatically updated my Internet Explorer and then I was able to get all of the Windows 98se updates from the site. I couldn't believe it and not sure if I will be as lucky again, but it was great! I know the newer versions of AOL require you to sign in with your account or a new account, but this CD put all of the software on first, so I wouldn't have to finish setting up AOL to fix the problem I had with the Windows 98se updates.
Hopefully this may help someone else out, if you run into a similar problem.

It shows the July 11, 2006 date for Windows 98se. I see where the support site is available, but I actually got the windows update page for Windows 98se and this was 5 days after the cut off date. I am going to try it again on a spare computer to see if I get the same results. Thanks for the information.
