My friend has an e-machine T2385. After restarting the computer, he just gets a blank desktop with no icons. However, the desktop pattern is appearing. You'll have to be patient with me because I know nothing about PCs (I'm a Mac person), and my friend is even more illiterate than I am even though he has a PC. I'd apprecate any help. Thanks.

What actions led up to this condition?

Learn to use Google Search.  :busy:

Make full system images to restore to if your computer goes bonkers.

If you Right click on the desktop and select "Arrange Icons by", does the "Show Desktop Icons" have a check beside it. If not select that option and see if they come back.

There are two different ways to do this:

**** Make sure internet is disconnected to do this ****

1: Press CLT + ALT + DEL then goto file then new task run. then type msconfig. click on startup tab on right hand side. Then click disable all and reboot.

2. Reboot to safe mode and goto start then run and type msconfig. click on startup tab on right hand side. Then click disable all and reboot.

If you have no icons or taskbar on the desktop. Then follow step 1 in safe mode.

3. Once you have your desktop back to normal go back to msconfig click on the startup tab on the right. starting at the top of the list on the left. Check two of them and reboot. If you still have the normal desktop (icons and startbar ) then go back to msconfig and check two more. Continue with this untill you have no icons and startbar. Then you have an idea what is causing the issue
