HI. I was previously working with phawgg on fixing my swapx infection. Had to go away for my computer for a few days, and I want to post a new log. I really need to get this figured out. IE is constantly crashing, I haven't been able to check my email in weeks,....

I would really appreciate some help from phawgg or anyone else.

Thanks.

alisonrae00, let's give this a try.

We don't normally recommend running two antivirus programs together. The program I am going to tell you to install has been successful removing this particular variant in the past.

Could you disable McAfee for now and go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program. (avg70free_ 289a392.exe) Download the 9.9MB program ( that's about 40 minutes on dialup) to your desktop. Registration is free, installation is to your program files & it will uninstall normally, also. Run AVG, opening to the "control center" and updating it first. When finished updating, make all boxes blue. (full install). Choose "test center" next. Click the top icon. Scan may take another 20 minutes or more. You will see test results. Allow it to remove whatever it finds.

Download KillBox here: KillBox. Unzip it to your desktop.

Extract Killbox, open folder & choose extract to your desktop. "Finish". Open the folder and then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.

Start Killbox.exe Select the Delete on reboot option.

Copy and paste each of the following file(s) to the address bar labeled "Full path of file to delete", one at a time.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\buypu9m9v2z7ithd.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\6osedzmnneuhwn7.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll
.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

After entering each file press the Delete button (the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it).

A dialog box will ask if you want to delete and reboot now - on all but the last file, answer NO
For the last file (or first, if only one file), answer YES

On restart, verify that the files have been deleted. Repeat above until you see this: Posted Image

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:

.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

Close all other windows and browsers, and press the Fix Checked button and exit HJT.

Reboot into Safe Mode by tapping F8 until the screen appears where you can use the up arrow to choose safe mode. Hit enter.

Search for, locate and delete these files or folders (Do not be concerned if they do not exist, the previous steps may have eliminated them.) Do not delete main folders like C:\WINDOWS or C:\Program Files. Navigate to the folder locations or use: Start-->Search-->select "all files & folders"-->select "more advanced options"-->check search "system folders", "hidden files & folders", "sub-folders".
Delete
C:\WINDOWS\System32\5vygyd.exe<--this file only

Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files use: Start-->Run-->type in: %temp% and press the ok button. This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files and folders found in the temp folder. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. Doing this in Safe Mode you should be able to delete all the files.

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode.

Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to Start-->Internet Explorer-->Tools-->Internet Options-->General tab-->Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, but when it is done your Temporary Internet Files will be deleted.

Empty the recycle bin.

Run HijackThis again and post the new log as a reply to this post.

(Include comments regarding any problems you might have had, and let us know if its working better.)
You might consider continuing to use AVG, but only run one anti-virus program with resident protection at a time, please. To uninstall, simply go to Add/Remove programs.

Thanks, phawgg

Oh, forgot to ask one more thing. On the AVG scanner, which i have already run, these pop ups incessantly come up, saying Virus Detected. I can't make them stop. I've already looked on the help file, but it makes no sense to me. Should I just remove the program?

Also, I have had my computer for over a year, but only recently hooked it up to the net. Apparently, I was misguided to believe that I received a free virus scanner - but it was only a trial. So I have no virus protection as of right now. Can you recommend any free software (or even trial software) until I can purchase a virus scan?

Thanks.

As I mentioned in an email to you a little while back, please post a new log if you still need help. Our procedures with this particular infection have improved since earlier this month.

On the AVG scanner, which i have already run, these pop ups incessantly come up, saying Virus Detected. I can't make them stop. I've already looked on the help file, but it makes no sense to me. Should I just remove the program?

No, it is working. It has been found effective at removing swapX. Other steps beyond it's first cleanup work should also be done.

So I have no virus protection as of right now.

AVG = Anti-Virus Group. You do have excellent virus protection now.
