I work for a clothing boutique and we installed a new POS and we are wanting to set up a second station on a laptop. I was sent a set of instructions on networking and sharing for windows 7 but we are using windows 8.1 Everything is different. I am suppose to change the public network to work network. And from what I can tell, in windows 8.1 there is no such settings to change.

Can someone help me with this? Plus I was concerned about turning on file sharing in fear of any other computers or devices will be able to log on and steal information from our computers. Am I not understanding network correctly if I am thinking this?

Thanks for any help given
