Recently (in the last month) my computer has started giving me a double click on a single click of the left button.  This is very irritating.

It does this with both, a USB Logitech Track Man Wheel and with a wireless HID mouse.

I have tried adjusting the settings for the mouse but that doesn't seem to have any effect.

I have AVAST antivirus.  I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot search and destroy, Super Anti-Spyware and Junkware Removal Tool.

I have updated all of my drivers and used Drive Booster 3.

When I click to close a window on Firefox it will double click and minimize the browser.

This problem is active in all of my programs that I run, not just the browser.

I have Windows Vista, 64 Bit on a Dell Inspiron laptop.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

I think this has to be a software problem, but I don't know how to correct it or which software is involved..

Thank you

Personally I think your problem is an overused mouse. I used to have a mouse that does that, but the problem disappeared when it was swapped for another mouse.

Have you tried another mouse to rule out the mouse itself?

The Logitech is fairly old.  But as I said, the other mouse I tried is fairly new.

So with the same problem appearing at the same time I would not think it is the mouse.

Do you have any other suggestion?

I would look at the driver next... and no, using a driver updater like IOBit Driver Booster is not a good idea.

Can you try updating the current mouse driver to the latest version? A rollback to remove any driver that Driver Booster forced on your computer may be needed first.

One of the first things I did, BEFORE using Driver Booster was to uninstall the mouse, bot of them and when I connected them to the USB port they reinstalled.

I have also updated the mouse drivers through the Control Panel and the CP says I have the most up to date driver.

I tried to use the Logitech on my desktop and it seems to work ok there.

Download SecurityCheck.exe from Here

. Run SecurityCheck and follow the instruction from inside the code box.
. When the scan is finished, a notepad will automatically open as check.txt
Please copy and paste the contents here on your next reply.

Download MiniToolBox and open/run the program.
When open, checkmark or select all options then click Go.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

I thought the problem was my mouse.  Just got irritated with it.

However, I used my mouse on another laptop and it ran fine.

I tried the first link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/266738 but when I tried to open the test link they gave it would not install because I have Windows Vista and not Windows 7 or later.

Tried the second link and got a message the the computer had many issues, BUT they want you to pay for the program to fix the problems.

I did do a clean boot and the mouse operated fine.

However, I did not have any internet connection.

I tried reloading some of the services until I got my internet back.

The mouse seemed to work fine for a couple of days, but now is double clicking again and when I used the wheel to scroll a few lines, occasionally it will jump back several lines.

This is getting annoying.

Since I don't know what "services" I need and which one is causing the problem, I am kind of in a dilemma.

I ran scanned the computer with AVAST, Malwarebytes Anti-malware, Super Anti-Spyware, Junk Removal Tool and Hijack This.

So, can't quite figure out what is causing the problem.
