hi!  i'm new to this forum and after a quick look, didn't see a solution to my problem.  if it's already here somewhere, please accept my apologies!

i've had my external hard drive a long while and only recently pulled it out again.  maybe this is a new problem or perhaps i had it from the beginning and didn't realize it.

when i attempted to back up some NEW photos recently, i hooked up my iomega model RDHD-U external hard drive only to find it looked like these NEW photos were already there.

it seems to mirror what is on my PC (Windows 7 Enterprise).  i contacted iomega and they said it was a PC issue:  "there is a backup program that is doing the mirroring. Backup and Restore is a default program on Windows, but you had to have set it up."

since i purchased the HD so long ago, they could offer no more assistance.

i don't remember changing any PC setting, but in any case, i really only want to manually save my photos on the external hard drive, but cannot.

i tried to see if i could figure out the problem by going to START / ALL PROGRAMS / MAINTENANCE / BACKUP AND RESTORE on my PC, but can't see what is wrong nor how to change it.

help?

thanks!!

Louis, thanks so much for your reply and guidance!

even though your instructions are awesome, I was still a bit overwhelmed.

after seeing the errors, I wanted to mention I was working with the external HD (referenced above as "recently") on 9/27 - but you will, no doubt, gather that.  hopefully this is all the info you requested:

Moved to Am I Infected, appears system has adware and possibly other malware on it.

As to your questions about you backup drive...I can address those.  You use the Windows Backup and I suppose you need to check the settings that you have established for it (after the potential malware issue is resolved).
