Let's just say my screen is blue and dead all over the place. I'm stumped and lost. HELP plz.

[Edited because I got flustered and didn't follow the directions completely when I originally posted]

· OS - Windows 8.1, 8, 7, Vista ? Windows 8.1
· x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
· What was original installed OS on system? Windows 8 Pro
· Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? OEM
· Age of system (hardware)   - 1 year, 10 months
· Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS? Last week I did a refresh. That didn't work. Wednesday I couldn't even sign into 8.1. I reinstalled 8 from system recovery / recovery partition and then updated to 8.1 yesterday. My computer wouldn't recognize my usb to do a clean install of 8.1, so that was not an option.

· CPU - Intel Core i5-4330M CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.79 GHz
· Video Card - Intel HD Graphics 4600
· MotherBoard - (if NOT a laptop)
· Power Supply - brand & wattage (skip if laptop)

· System Manufacturer  - Lenovo
· Exact model number (if laptop, check label on bottom) - ThinkPad L440 (20ATCTO1WW)
· Laptop or Desktop? Laptop

Thank you

Hi blonderedhead & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

The ZIP files attached by you did not contain any dump files :(
But, I see that a Memory.DMP was created at C:\Windows\Memory.DMP. Kindly zip up that file, upload it to a 3rd party file hoster like MediaFire, OneDrive and then share the link here so that the dump file could be analysed :)

Let me know how it goes ^_^

In the WER section of MSINFO32 there is an ApphelpHardBlock and an ApphelpHardBlockOSSpecific error.  This implies that there are at least 2 incompatible programs on your system.

Please check to be sure:

- That you have all available Windows Updates

- That you have all updates to W8.1 for the Lenovo system that you have (From the Lenovo website)

- That you have updated or removed all other programs that aren't compatible w/W8 (unfortunately this will require checking the website of each program that you've installed over the life of the system)

There was a STOP 0xCD BSOD in rfcomm.sys  This implies a problem in the Bluetooth for your system
- ensure that your Wnidows Updates are up to date

- ensure that you have the latest, W8.1 compatible version of the drivers and programs for any Bluetooth devices that you may have connected to the system.

- it looks like you have Intel bluetooth starting when the system boots - that'll need uninstalling and then installing a freshly downloaded copy also.

As a preliminary to the next step, please ensure that your system is set to produce minidumps:  http://www.carrona.org/setmini.html

And, as this is most likely a problem with a device driver, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html

Blueelvis, thank you for the extra instructions. here's a link:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=A1AF018899B72D7A!4501&authkey=!ALf2ArFju6RfzG8&ithint=file%2czip

also I just went ahead and did the Windows 8.1 clean install at one point this weekend bc the darn thing was in a restart loop.

usasma, wow, I really appreciate the time despite the lack of dumps ! thank you.

updates: at the time I posted on Friday, all windows updates were installed, all Lenovo updates were installed, I think the only program installed besides Lenovo (system utilities and bloatware) was office 2013 and chrome because I had just done Windows recovery. I had already uninstalled Norton and turned on Windows defender. not sure which programs could have been causing problems. Lenovo stuff?

I will try uninstall/reinstall the Intel Bluetooth. I may have had the Bluetooth disabled because I never use it.

I'll try running driver verifier and I will follow the directions to start the mini dump factory.

Apologies if I'm slow to post back. I'll eventually get through all these troubleshooting steps despite the blue screens and needing sleep!

The large memory dump is different from the dumps that we usually see.  This one is full of .DLL's - which isn't normally the case, usually we see drivers (.SYS)

More to follow after dinner (or in the morning)

Please note the differences in the "Built by" line of the analysis.  A significant change to the OS occurred between 26 and 28 September 2015.

Could this have been due to the clean install of W8.1 that you did?

If so, where did you get the installation media and how did you create it?

Let's try a couple of things:

1)  Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html

2)  Please perform an antivirus scan with a fully updated antivirus program.  In short, I am wondering about virus' that are capable of surviving a clean install.

3)  Please start these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Here's what I suspect (in order from most likely to least likely):

- a hardware problem (which may/may not show in the diagnostics)

- a 3rd party driver (this includes the possibility of malware)

- defective installation media (not real likely as you had similar problems before the clean install)
