My Win 7 start up has changed. Now the BIOS/Boot option  info page which normally stays for 1 second so unable to read it now stays on and I must press F1 to proceed. Then it displays the Choose OS page which has nothing but Win7 on it. How this change happened is a mystery.

I have no password to get to the desktop straight away which I want.  How to stop the BIOS page displaying until I press F1 and to bypass the Choose OS instruction?

Any help please.

Thanks :).

First thing I would do...replace the CMOS battery...adjust the date/time in BIOS afterwards, use default settings, save changes vian F10.

Then boot into Windows.

CMOS battery? How right you are! What gave you the clue?

My battery has been dud for about a month so had to manually update the the time all the time. I can't confirm that my glitches started exactly at that time of dud battery  but just 2 days ago now I replaced the battery, before your hint, and the hung Bios page now doesn't stay but the Choose OS option is still there.

I had a dud battery in another computer (XP) for about a year but had none of the problems in this Win 7 one.

So your advice here works.  Thanks.

The boot process...the various situations relating to hardware...personal experience taught me :).

Glad you solved it, happy computing :).
