Hi, I have an Acer Aspire, model #AXC-703G-UW51 running windows 8.1, 4 gig memory, 500 gig HD and there does not appear to be a hard drive activity light on the front of the computer, just wondering if this is normal with a sata drive.

Thank you

has nothing to do with what sort of hard drive you have. It only depends on whether the case was built with an LED for that purpose (which I am guessing yours wasn't), and whether that LED is connected to the motherboard

Thank you for the reply, guess it wasn't built for one, I went to the acer site and could find this model but but no information about an activity light.

Moe, I would suggest you contact your manufacturer customer service, and ask them.  (Acer)  Or if nothing else, ask the people you bought it from.  If they don't know, they might be able to find out for you.
