downloaded the drivers for my sound card (XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00.tar.gz) from a website. The readme file says:

Quick install

In terminal,

Goto source directory

Execute make command as root

make install

I'm not sure what it means. What exactly do I need to do?

I am for peace

Extract the contents of XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00.tar.gz to a folder.
From terminal go to that folder and execute the commands.

The Debian Wiki has some info on an alternative way to use X-Fi Sound Cards. The indications might be similar for Linux Mint but better do some research or wait for the advice of more experienced forum members.
