deleted the files working much better, but still cant access Task manager, keep saying disabled by you administrator

thanks for your kind help, any thoughts on the above? :thumbsup:

Hey pharaoh,

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Do you have a firewall? I don't see one in your log.If you don't download a good firewall, for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm and install it.

Please create a list of programs that can be removed using Add/Remove Programs
Start HiJackThis. Click "Config"->"Misc Tools"->"Open Uninstall Manager" ->"Save List".
Save the log to a convenient location, and copy it into this thread.

Hi pharaoh,

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Also post a new log from HijackThis.

I see that you've downloaded ZoneAlarm. That's way better because the Windows Firewall only keeps things out, not in. Everything on the system can get an outside line and invite buddies for a party on your computer. ZoneAlarm will stop that.

AVG 7.1 keeps finding downloading virus "tibs"

Seems all of our efforts are questionable! if these viruses cannot be found & deleted

They are in the root of your C disc, so you can open up Explorer and delete these two files.

Please download ATF Cleaner to your desktop.
Do not use it yet.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Check your computer with the following Panda Anti Virus. Please save the log and post it in your next reply. The log looks clean, so we'll see if there is something left that is not logged.

AVG still comes up with Virus found "Tibs"

Hey Pharaoh,

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus may be accidentally backed up because of this feature. In order to completely remove a virus on these operating systems, you should disable System Restore before cleaning the system, then reenable it after the system is clean.

Follow the instructions below to disable System Restore

IMPORTANT NOTES:
You must be logged in as an Administrator to do this. If you are not logged in as an Administrator, the "System Restore"-tab will not be displayed.
Turning off System Restore will clear out all previous restore points.

To turn off Windows XP System Restore:

NOTE: These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click "Start", click "Properties", click "Start menu (not Classic)" and then click "OK".

1. Click "Start".
2. Right-click the "My Computer"-icon, and then click "Properties".
3. Click the "System Restore"-tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
5. Click "Apply".
6. When turning off "System Restore", the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Yes" to do this.
7. Click "OK".
8. Proceed with what you need to do; for example, virus removal. When you have finished, restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore.

To turn on Windows XP System Restore:

1. Click "Start".
2. Right-click "My Computer", and then click "Properties".
3. Click the "System Restore"-tab.
4. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
5. Click "Apply", and then click "OK".
