Hi all,

Bought a new laptop about a week after Windows 10 was released. I upgraded to Windows 10 as soon as I got it. After my first BSOD, i updated a bunch of drivers. I updated my synaptics touchpad driver, audio driver, graphics card driver, etc.  and had no BSOD's for a few days, but then they started up again. According to Driver Booster, all of my drivers are currently up to date. I actually tried the dmp analyzer with OSR and that pointed to my network driver (Qualcomm Atheros qca9565), so I rolled it back but that hasn't helped. The network driver does seem to be the culprit though. A couple of times during the BSOD's I've noticed that I've been unable to access the wifi over my phone - don't know if the network causes the BSOD or the BSOD causes something to go wrong with my network but they're definitely related. I also did the analyzer with a couple of other dmp files and actually the results were different for a couple of them though. Could really use some help with this!

I've attached the two files we are supposed to include and a file of some of my recent mini dumps.

Windows 10

x64

HP Pavilion 13 x360 laptop (model 13z-a000)

AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics

Edit: Just did the Driver Verifier and got a Driver Verifier Detected Violation BSOD. Had to do a system restore and there's no minidmp file from the BSOD

Cannot run the HDD Diagnostic tool because my laptop doesn't have a CD/DVD drive

Run Seatools for Windows (I believe there's a link on my page here:  http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html ), but if not, just search for it using Google or Bing.

I'll be back in the AM after I read your reports - it's past my bedtime now.

Also, check for wireless driver updates that are W10 compatible

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

- John  (my website: http://www.carrona.org/ )**If you need a more detailed explanation, please ask for it. I have the Knack. **  If I haven't replied in 48 hours, please send me a message. My eye problems have recently increased and I'm having difficult reading posts. (23 Nov 2017)FYI - I am completely blind in the right eye and ~30% blind in the left eye.<p>If the eye problems get worse suddenly, I may not be able to respond. If that's the case and help is needed, please PM a staff member for assistance.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version F.13) dates from 2014.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.

Next, there's a lot of Panda antivirus drivers in the memory dumps.  You may want to try removing the Panda and testing to see if that helps.

Be sure to enable Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall while testings so that you have some protection.

This is looking like a hardware or incompatibility problem.  I'd start by looking at the wifi, at audio, and at uSB devices, but am really not certain where the errors are coming from.

Here's my generic suggestions for W10 troubleshooting:

Otherwise this tends to look similar to many other problems that we've seen with W10 being installed on well-used systems.

There's a couple of things to try:
1)  Run the following command in a Powershell window that's run as an Administrator in order to re-register the Windows Store apps:

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
From this article:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/re-register-windows-store-apps

2)  Uninstall your antivirus, then use the removal tool for it (there's a list of most of them here:  http://www.carrona.org/avuninst.html ), then install a freshly downloaded, W10 compatible version.  Some A/V have difficulties with the upgrade, so removing them and then reinstalling them will help how they run.

3)  Download fresh copies of the latest, W10 compatible audio and video drivers for your system.  Then uninstall the current versions from your system.  Then install the freshly downloaded versions.

4)  Get ALL available Windows Updates

5)  Get ALL available, W10 compatible drivers/programs from the manufacturer's website.  If some aren't compatible w/W10, check here about uninstalling them.

6)  Get ALL available, W10 compatible drivers/programs for any add-on hardware and any software that you installed previously.  If they aren't compatible, please uninstall them.

If this doesn't fix things, then post back so we can discuss the following options:
- continuing to attempt to fix this copy of the OS
- Reset of the OS (considering both the "Keep My Files" and the "Remove Everything" options)
- revert to the previous OS
- revert to the previous OS with another attempt at installing W10 (I don't recommend this)
- clean install of the previous OS
- clean install of the previous OS, then update to W10
- W10 clean install

Hi,

I did a lot of what you suggested and still no luck.

I deleted and re-installed W10 compatible drivers (for the graphics card, network adapter, and touchpad), checked for updates, uninstalled Panda and tried the Powershell command.

I haven't done anything with the BIOS, because I'm both uncertain of how to do update it (I don't see any listed updates for Bios when I look up my computer model on HP's website) and a little nervous about it.

I am still suspicious that this has something to do with my network adapter because I keep noticing that my whole wifi network cuts out whenever I get a BSOD but not really sure what else I can do at this point.

I'm perfectly okay with doing something like wiping the whole computer, but I'm worried that won't fix the problem since this was a brand new computer when I got it. Also, since I upgraded to W10 more than a month ago, I don't think I can go back to W8.

I've had a couple more BSOD's since my first post so I've included the minidumps in this file in case that helps at all. Thanks!

You can go back to W8, but you'll lose everything (so backup your stuff).

There's 2 ways possible:

- if it hasn't been overwritten, use the HP restore function to restore the system to W8 (this has worked in several HP's at work)

- If unable to use the restore function, contact HP for a set of recovery media for your system.  Here's a link w/instructions for the US:  http://www.carrona.org/recdisc.html#hp

BUT - more BSOD's are fixed by the owners than are fixed by me.  Pay attention to your suspicions about the network card:

- update ALL networking drivers (wired, wireless, and bluetooth).

- switch to another method of connecting to the network/internet (if possible)

Does HP offer W10 drivers/support for your system?

If that's the case, then don't worry about the BIOS/UEFI update - as it's probably not necessary.

BUT, if they don't offer W10 support for the device, then you have to wonder if there might be a problem with the BIOS/UEFI and W10

But, regardless, if there isn't an update available - you can't update it.

Here's some things to try that I've seen over the last couple of weeks:

Otherwise this tends to look similar to many other problems that we've seen with W10 being installed on well-used systems.

There's a couple of things to try:
1)  Run the following command in a Powershell window that's run as an Administrator in order to re-register the Windows Store apps:

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

PS - I'm late for work.  I'll try to get on the minidump analysis this afternoon.  If not then, then definitely by tomorrow AM.

Good luck!

The memory dump was essentially the same as the others - a STOP 0x133 error blaming the kernel (core of the OS).

After thinking a bit, you might want to read this article about diagnosing DPC's:  http://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-7-windows-vista-tutorials/5721-how-diagnose-fix-high-dpc-latency-issues-wpa-windows-vista-7-8-a.html

Also, you may want to run Driver Verifier to see if you can get it to identify the offending driver:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html

Update: I reset the OS using the keep my files option a few days ago and so far no BSOD's! Still wish I knew exactly what was wrong before but I'm happy enough now. Thanks for all the help

Ah okay, posted that last response a few hours too soon apparently. Almost a full six days without a BSOD and I just got one. If you could help out and check out the minidump that would be wonderful, although I'm not sure if it'll tell us anything new.

Not exactly unusual - usually after a week I'm hoping that it's been fixed.  But I don't get convinced of a fix until at least 2 weeks have passed (maybe even longer in some cases).

But we'll see what we've got and will work from there.

This is basically the same error as previously.

IMO, this is tending to look like either a hardware or a compatibility issue.

It could relate to the BIOS - but if there are no updates, then there's nothing that you can do with that.

But the good thing here is that there seems to be fewer drivers involved in the BSOD.  As such, it'll make working with them a bit easier.

For now, it's a matter of seeing what drivers are common to all the memory dumps - and replacing them with known good versions.

For example, as the video drivers are mentioned, I'd:

- download a fresh set of the latest, W10 compatible AMD video drivers from the HP website

- uninstall the current AMD video drivers

- install the freshly downloaded drivers.

Again, I'm running late for work - but will have a look at this when I get home from work.

Good luck!

One thing to remove is Panda - it owns most of the drivers in the memory dump.

After removing it, activate Windows Defender and the Windows firewall (so you have some protection while testing).

That'll eliminate over ½ of the drivers right off the bat.

Then update all the AMD stuff to W10 compatible drivers - and that'll take care of another ¼

I can't get much more info without a more specific model number (the 13-a000 has multipe sub-models with different chipsets)
