I am currently unable to update Windows, several other items of software, and I cannot use Curse Client or WoW on this machine.

If I look at services, Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and Windows Update are both Status Type "Automatic" and neither have a listed status.  They will not Start upon request.

If I open a CMD box, the command "net start bits" gives me an error "Service Specific Error 2147952506"

If I type "net start wuauserv" I get "System Error 10106"

Error 10106 says it is caused because I do not update.   I cannot update because I have error 10106.

I use Avast for Anti-Virus

I use Malware Bytes

I use Ccleaner

I use Autoruns, and I don't feel like I've disabled anything important, but I suppose it is possible.

Help?

Thanks,

C

Sorry for the delay, and thanks for your reply.

I did SFC/SCANNOW as instructed.

Part 2, converting CBS.log to CBS.txt did not go as expected.

I followed the instructions exactly, and the CBS.txt file was never created.  I searched, and it isn't just not on the desktop, it is not anywhere.

I verified the that CBS.log file was created, I tried the entire process a second and a third time.  I cannot swear to it, but i think the pasted line in the search bar increased the size of the .log file.  Maybe that was just the result of additional runs of the SFC /SCANNOW.

I'm sorry, but I really did do this, down to the copy/paste part.  I also tried leaving the cmd window open before the conversion attempt and closing it before the conversion attempts.  I didn't feel like it should matter either way, but...

On all three efforts at SFC / SCANNOW, it noted that there were corrupt files found that were not repaired.

Try opening an elevated command prompt per Go To The Power's instructions. Then copy and paste the following:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

then hit enter. See if Desktop has SFC.Txt

Doing that made a file called sfcdetails.txt appear on my Desktop.

I guess CBS.txt is still MIA.

Should I paste the contents of sfcdetails.txt in here?  It was long, but I don't think too long to paste in.

Hi Coconfused,

Yes, sfcdetails.txt is correct. Sorry for omitting 'details'. However this is what Go The Power requested. I would go ahead and paste it in your reply and await further instructions from Go The Power.

Good Luck

Try opening an elevated command prompt per Go To The Power's instructions. Then copy and paste the following:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

then hit enter. See if Desktop has SFC.Txt

Please do not use that method. Go The Power doesn't work with the "sfcdetails.txt" log (neither does any other Windows Update Analysts). When we ask for the full CBS.log, it's because we need it :)

Coconfused, if it's easier for you, navigate to the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder, then copy and paste the CBS.log file on your Desktop and upload it for Go The Power.

Not your fault no worries. The "sfcdetails.txt" is the most wide-spread method on the Internet to get a CBS.log, but it's not the right way to proceed when you deal with actual, skilled Windows Update Analysts :P

OK, I'm not sure I did everything right, but here's what I did.

I renamed the existing CBS.log file to a temporary file.

I re-ran SFC /SCANNOW from an Administrator CMD window.

I looked and CBS.log was 0 bytes.

I ran the command: cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt" from the Search box.

That made CBS.log about 700,000 bytes, but still did not make a CBS.txt file on my desktop.

I copied CBS.log to my Desktop.

I moved it into a Dropbox folder.

Here is the shared Dropbox link:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/8flel6ffv50g74o/CBS.log?dl=0

If I screwed something up, let me know and I'll do something different.

Thanks again.
