Hi all, I usually read topics but haven't had a need to post, but I can't solve my slow internet speed issue.

I have a Acer Ax3200 slimline desktop 64bit Vista home premium sp2 with AMD Phenom 8400 triple core processor and 4 Gb of ram. Nvidia Nforce 10/100/100 ethernet

I am getting 10 -14Mbps internet speed on speedtest.net All of my other desktops and laptops are getting 35-40Mbps wired and wireless.

So here is what I've done

Uninstalled and reinstalled driver, didn't work so went to website and reinstalled most recent one through Acer, still no dice.

Checked and changed cable and port on router to one from one of the other desktops that was working fine, still the same.

Released/ renewed ip, Nothing

Scanned for virus and malware, MBytes, ADW Cleaner, Hitman Pro, Avast boot time scan, Eset online scan, all came up clean.

SFC and Chkdsk.

Router had latest firmware (Motorola Surfboard) Bright House ISP.

Used all Browsers Firefox, Chrome and even IE, all run the same.

XP desktop 32bit Good speed Ethernet through 4 port switch 2GB ram

Win 7 64bit Good Speed Ethernet directly plugged to modem

XP laptop 32Bit Good speed wireless

Win 8.1 laptop though wireless Good speed

Samsung s4 wireless Good also.

All windows updates.

Still can't figure out why it's so slow, I have seen an issue with an amd program that runs on taskmgr, but I don't have that running on my system.

Any help would be appreciated.

You could try disabling auto tuning:

I have seen cases where this feature slowed down p2p traffic dramatically.

I just Solved it.

Thank you Slurppa for the info, but I finally found the culprit. Before I tried your solution I decided to try another clean boot. I noticed that my Avast antivirus still started even though I had it set up to not start in msconfig. I decided to go into the Avast menu and turn off web shield for ten minutes and try speedtest.net. What do you know, my speed increased back to 49Mbps just like the rest of my computers.

I use Avast on my XP, Win 7, and Win 8.1 computers with no issue, but for some reason it seems to have an issue with Vista.

I really like Avast and now have to decide what to replace it with or see if they have a solution on one of their forums.

Again, thanks for your help in the matter, it was driving me nuts.
