It's not compatible with Windows 2000, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10

See here

It can only run on these OS:

Windows XP (32-bit only)
Windows Vista (32-bit/64-bit)
Windows 7 (32-bit/64-bit)
Windows 8 (32-bit/64-bit)

If I am helping you and I don't respond within 2 days, feel free to send me a PM

ComboFix does not support Windows 8.1 and 10, and it is unlikely that the author will update them to support those OSes.

Emsisoft Emergency Kit is fully compatible with Windows 10. You might want to check your Internet connection :)

Hello johnedee,

Just a word of caution.  Although it is incompatible with your OS, even if it was not, please take note that Combofix is a very powerful application that should only be run under the direction of an expert.  It can result in serious damage to your computer if used improperly.  If you are experiencing behavior that makes you suspicious for infection I would recommend that you post for some help here or here.

Kind regards,

thcbytes

System requirements for ComboFix are clearly provided in the Authorized How to guide, on the authorized download page, and in the ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look here topic. If you attempt to use ComboFix on Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 it should provide a message alert and exit. These are generic messages and intentional by design when attempting to run ComboFix on an unsupported Windows version.

If you need individual assistance with a malware infection, please follow the instructions provided by thcbytes.

:welcome: to Bleeping Computer Uncle Bulgaria.

As I noted previously if you attempt to use ComboFix on Windows 10, Windows 8.1, or Windows 2000 it should provide a message alert and exit. These are generic messages and intentional by design when attempting to run ComboFix on an unsupported Windows version.

At this point ComboFix most likely never will be updated to support Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 since there are other alternatives (such as FRST, Zoek) which are being used by malware removal experts.

Been using COMBOFIX for years and it had a great run - I wish the author would update it for Windows 10, but with over 50 stages of cleaning I understand why it may be time to kick back and relax!!!

ConboFix essentially has been replaced by FRST which works on Windows 10. However, it is still useful for older operating systems but most experts prefer using FRST.

As already noted above...ComboFix most likely never will be updated to support Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 since there are other alternatives (such as FRST, Zoek) which are being used by malware removal experts. However, the developer (sUBs) periodically releases updates and fixes for older supported operating systems.

I just searched for combofix for windows 10 and found a site for it a windows 10  and 8.1 version.

Is the site genuine as virus total leaves me none the wiser and since malware authors are leaving fake results on sites like VT I thought you might know.

Before I have always downloaded it from here and one other forum.

Thank you in advance.
