Hi,

Following a few recent crashed of MS Essentials and IE/Chrome, I had a look at my Trusteer Rapport logs which showed that it stopped consent.exe from capturing sensitive data.

In running a search for this file I found it 17 times, mainly in various folders in the windows\winsxs folder, and looking online showed this may be virus related.

Can you please advise if these are indeed virus related?

Your assistance is appreciated.

Hi Nasdaq,

Thank you for your assistance.

More recently my internet browsers have been hanging (not responding) and shutting down. They also seem a bit slower than usual.

Then yesterday my MS Security essentials became non-responsive mid-scan.

Also on a couple of recent occasions the shutting down process has been hanging, and I have been forced to perform a hard shut down by holding the off button for 5 seconds.

Is there anything that could be causing this?

Many Thanks.

Download Zeok tool from here

When the download appears, save to the Desktop.
On the Desktop, right-click the Zoek.exe file and select: Run as Administrator
(Give it a few seconds to appear.)

Next, copy/paste the entire script inside the code box below to the input field of Zoek:
createsrpoint;
autoclean;
emptyalltemp;
ipconfig /flushdns;b
Now...
Close any open Browsers.
Click the Run script button, and wait. It takes a few minutes to run all the script.

When the tool finishes, the zoek-results.log is opened in Notepad.
The log is also found on the systemdrive, normally C:\
If a reboot is needed, the log is opened after the reboot.

Please attach the zoek-results.log in your reply.

On the whole, the computer now seems to be running ok following the script.

Although IE still seemed a bit slow, firefox now seems to be running a lot faster.

On my first attempt to get to this forum using IE, this message appeared:

"SQL Error

An error occured with the SQL server:

This is not a problem with the IPS Community Suite but rather with your SQL server. Please contact your host and copy the message shown above.

Return to the index"

Not sure what this means, but I noticed that the word "occurred" was not spelled correctly in this message.

I also re-enabled MS Security Essentials and rebooted, and following the re-boot MSE showed as "at risk" but eventually started after about 90 seconds.

← Return to the index"

Not sure what this means, but I noticed that the word "occurred" was not spelled correctly in this message.

It may have been just a glitch. I just used IE to go to this forum and all is well.

Any remaining issues?

Recently I've also had Microsoft Security Essentials stop mid-scan and real-time protection then show as turned off. Not sure why it would suddenly do this.

I was unable to turn on again until I restarted.

I then ran Microsoft Removal Tool, which showed 2 infected files during the scan, but then showed nothing found at the end of the scan.

I've also had Chrome and Firefox crash whilst on them.

Should I be concerned or could these just be system glitches?

There could be some remnant items.

Run an online scan with Eset (easiest with Internet Explorer): http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
To shorten the scanning time disable your antivirus program while scanning.

Select Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications.
Click Advanced Settings.

Deselect Remove found threats.

Select:
Scan Archives
Scan for potentially unsafe applications
Enable Anti-Stealth Technology

Click Start.

When the scan is finished, click on List of found threats and then Export to text file. Copy the content of the text file and paste its content in your reply.

My Malwarebytes Anti-exploit regularly brings up a message when I'm in Hotmail using IE, saying "Application Hardening" and it has stopped a script from running...it then kicks me out of Hotmail.

Also, when I'm in Ebay, Mcafee Webavisor brings a message at the top saying "We tested this page and blocked content that comes from potentially dangerous or suspicious sites. Only allow if you're sure it comes from safe sites".

Are these anything to worry about, or safe to ignore?

My Malwarebytes Anti-exploit regularly brings up a message when I'm in Hotmail using IE, saying "Application Hardening" and it has stopped a script from running...it then kicks me out of Hotmail.

I found this explanation on the Malwarebytes' site.
https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/170749-optimale-einstellungen-application-hardening/

Translated with Google.

I have read the Guide to Anti-Exploit for Business and have the following question:
Are the settings shown, for example, to "Application Hardening" or "OS bypass Protection" defaults
The unactivated box to all "Java Protecion" makes me think ... :)

The advanced settings are for fine tuning of certain techniques intended. Thus, while the advanced Java protection are turned off, they are not the most important Java protection, which can not be shut down to. The default value is the best balance between security and usability. But hesitate everything and Test in your environment to turn. We have many reports from users that all active and have no problems. But it depends on the different security and hooking applications that you might have installed.

I would check with them as I am not familiar with that program.

This is an added protection with McAfee. You have to decide if you can to continue.
If all the Ebay site is protected then I would check the McAfee about changing the options with WebAdvisor if it's possible.

I suggest your delete the files in bold.

C:\Users\FC\Downloads\ccsetup504.exe Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.D potentially unsafe application
C:\Users\FC\Downloads\spsetup128.exe Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.D potentially unsafe application

These are backup .zip file. They contain some potentially unsafe applicate. Decide if you want to keep them.
