Hello and good day to all!

I recently installed the free Windows 10 upgrade but could not get used to the start menu and other things so I converted back to Windows 7 (Premium Home).  I finally got around to purchasing an external hard drive to back up my system, but upon trying to do so, it gave me an error code of 0x80041321, or more like, "Task image is corrupt or has been tampered with 0x80041321".  I researched this topic a little and having used Bleeping Computer before with good results in the past, I tried the instructions on the following page:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/532297/cannot-backup/.  After following the instructions on this page, my computer still will not allow me to back up my hard drive, and now every time I plug in my MP3 player, I have to do a driver troubleshoot/repair for it to begin charging.  Also the driver for "Toredo" needs to be fixed, but after researching on that it doesn't seem necessary, so I have left it alone.

Due to running this "tweaking" program, I had to uninstall Avira, then upon reinstalling it, Avira would search for updates every 10 minutes it seemed.  I did find a menu within the Avira settings to change when it did updates, but although I changed it to every 24 hours it still updated every 10 minutes or so.  This became very aggravating as a box would pop up right in the middle of whatever screen I had up at the time.  So I switched antivirus programs to AVG.  I thought about Avast but decided to try AVG first.

I have also noticed that since I have returned to Windows 7, it takes longer to go through the initial boot sequence upon starting.  I have my computer set up with a password upon starting and the screens before and after the password log in take longer to change.  It also takes longer for my computer to "link" to the internet through the modem.

I would say that after reinstalling "7" my boot sequence portion of my hard drive needs to be defragged.

Any suggestions to help get this system back up and running to par?

Thanks for the help!!

Steve

There is a known incompatibility between Soulseek and AVG...with the Soulseek answer being to uninstall all AVG applications.

Me...I would uninstall Soulseek and keep the AVG antivirus application.

Without specific Event Viewer data, it's difficult to gain any information from Event Viewer.

I did like the Avira Antivirus when I had it, but the updater kept popping up.  I've read where AVG, Avira, and Avast are all pretty good "free" antivirus programs....Which one would you recommend?

Thanks again for your help.

Steve

I deliberately try NOT to suggest AV programs for following reasons:

    a.  Although I have (at some time) tried quite a few, I have not played with current versions of anything other than Eset, Avast, Avire, and MS Security Essentials.  I currently have MSE on one system and Avira on another desktop, while Eset (which is not free) I consider to be "better".  I did not like Avast at all...which is probably a reflection of personal quirks of mine...moreso than any determination that Avast does not protect as well as any of the others.

    b.  We have a forum, AV/AM Software, where such things are better discussed and the information is bound to be better than any I could/would provide.

My recommendation would be visit that forum for suggestions/advice.

Louis
