Hey guys, My best friend installed Roboscan a week ago. I've read all the documentation on Roboscan and told him that it doesn't seem to  be updated for a couple of years now, but he told me that the definitions just updated 9/03/15. Does anyone have any idea if this is still a good program for him to use ? He likes the lightness and the non slowdown of his system. I thought Roboscan was abandonware, but he says the definitions are updating. Any ideas ? Thanks.

I have never used that product and do not know of anyone who has.

According to their website, the last software update was 11.10.2013 so it appears they are not doing much to improve or introduce new features.

I agree quietman7, the site and product seems to never update but the virus definitions are updating. It uses it's own Tera engine and Bitdefender engine, should I convince him to stop using it, even if the definitions are updating ?

I don't know enough about the program. I did find a couple of discussion topics with comments by other users which may help with a decision.

Roboscan ESTsoft ALYac Antivirus Basic
Roboscan...any good?

Thanks quietman7. He switch to Roboscan because he said AVG Free slowed his system down, it's a P4, 3 GB Ram.

I have been disappointed with AVG ever since they made a decision in April 2010 to partner with LimeWire and promote the use of peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing, a security risk which can make your system susceptible to a smörgåsbord of malware infections, remote attacks, and exposure of personal information.

There have been numerous complaints about issues and conflicts with other security tools like Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Read these related discussions:Even MajorGeeks, a popular download hosting site, had issued a statement on AVG Free and removed its Editor's Pick listing at that time.

There have been reports of issues with the computer starting properly on 64-bit Windows sytems for which AVG has had to release these fix instructions.

There have also been numerous reported problems with computers after using features like PC Analyzer and PC Tuneup which purport to fix registry errors in order to make the system more stable and various optimizing tools which can make changes to system settings.

And finally there have been many user complaints about the lack of adequate AVG Customer Support in addressing issues related to the use of their product.

For these reasons, I no longer recommend AVG as a free alternative anti-virus solution.

I'm glad that I followed you to this thread.  I was seriously considering AVG ... not anymore.

Quietman7, I guess you may see him in the malware forum, because he says as long as the definitions keep updating, he feels confident in the program, and he has no system slow down either. Thanks for your help.
