Hello BC Members,
I have been having this problem for quite a while now..and I thought both of them would just go away but they haven't, so I thought of seeking professional advice

Windows Update Problem:
I did a manual update about 1 month ago, I had about 6 updates and I download them and installed it. The Last one was a 'Windows Update (KB913670) which is a automatic changing of the Daylight Saving. However since then the update never worked and everytime I get that small yellow ballon on the taskbar saying I have to install it but I cant :inlove:

eBay Alert problem:
I downloaded a tool for eBay to give me live alerts but never seems to work so i went to start-up and uninstalled it and it went away..few days later it popped back up, now I cant even uninstall it and when ever I delete the system process after about 5 mins it comes back :flowers:

So any advice on tackling both these problems would be very well aprecciated. :trumpet:

Thanks,

Other than the one unsuccessful update do you have Windows Updates up to date including and beyond SP2?

Do you have any realtime anti-malware programs such as Windows Defender and Spybot Search and Destroy installed and running on your computer?

The ebay notifier sounds like it could have been malware. What exactly is it and where did you get it?

The first thing that is necessary is to make certain there is no malware running on your computer and then address all missing Windows Updates.

If you do not already have the following three aps, download them, update them and run the first two from safe mode. They are all freeware.

Ad-Aware SE Personal - freeware
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Adawa...nal/965718306/1

Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Be sure to enable “Teatimer” which gives you realtime protection against malware invasion. (absolutely necessary)

Microsoft Windows Defender
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...re/default.mspx
This also provides realtime protection. (absolutely necessary)

Let them remove what they find but let us know what they found.

After that, run a few of the following web based scans using Internet Explorer (You must use IE because they require Active X to operate)
Run at least three of the following and at least one of the trojan scans:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner

and
File scanner and virus scanner

Panda Activescan

Trend Micro antivirus and malware scan:

Etrust Anti-virus web scanner

Avast Online scan

F Secure online scan

Try uninstalling the Ebay ap in add/remove programs using safe mode.

You may also try disabling it in your startup menu - you can't uninstall a program while it's running.

The following will enable you to identify it and disable its starting when you start Windows:

Startup Inspector (disables aps from starting in your startup menu)
And
Startup Monitor (a small freeware ap available on the same page to notify you and require your permission for any program to add itself to your startup menu)

I couldn't find eBay Toolbar on any of the Add/Remove Prgram Lists, so I manually went to my HDD and deleted the eBay ToolBar folder and ran CCLeaner: Cleaner/Issue Finder (all on safe mode) and now after rebooting the computer, eBay Toolbar didn't pop-up on my taskbar yet..I will keep watch on that for a few days and see what happenes.

Thanks for all the help!

Did it remove it?

It may be a BHO which Internet Explorer calls "Add Ons" and has a tool to manage them.

Click "Tools" and then click "Manage Add-Ons"

Disable anything you can identify as Ebay.

A BHO is a "browser helper object" which has legitimate uses such as Roboform, Tahoo or Google Toolbar, Adobe, etc, but is also used by adware and malware.

You can eliminate the ones you do not want or malicious ones in Internet Explorer as I explained in my previous post.
